visiting copenhagen end of august

I am coming to copenhagen at the end of august for 4 days with my family (husband and two children, 10 and 8) I have a few of questions if anyone can help,

It is my husbands 40th birthday whilst we are there, can anyone recommend something special, maybe a bit unusal, I can do on his birthday that will keep us all entertained, Also restaurant recommendations welcome.

We are travelling to Legoland from Copenhagen, from my investigations we can get train and then a bus is this the most direct route?

I havent booked anywhere to stay yet, any recommendations for areas. We like to be able to walk rather than use public transport if possible.

Finally if we in CPH for 4 days is it worth getting a CPH card, I reckon we will go the Tivoli Gardens, but not sure about using much other public transport, unless we have to, as we tend to try get round on foot mostly if we can.

Any help greatly appreciated!! Thanks

You can fly from Copenhagen to Billund (45 min each way), but an expensive solution. Around DKK 3,500 return for 2 adults + 2 children.

By train and bus the trip takes 3-3½ hours each way.

You need to take the train to Vejle and change to bus to Legoland from there.

You can find timetables here:

http://www.rejseplanen.dk/bin/query.exe/en?

Each adult can take 2 children under 12 free - you only pay for seat reservation.

Normal return fare for trains for 2 adults is DKK 1,400. Savings fares (Orange ticket) is available at about DKK 1,000, but number of tickets is limited and usually you need to buy well in advance.

When you click Buy Ticket in the journey planner you are taken to a booking site that unfortunately is in Danish only.

The bus fare from Vejle to Legoland is DKK 60/one-way.

I%26#39;m dying to see Jude Law perform Hamlet at Kronberg Slot in Helsinore, which is a quick train journey from Copenhagen.

Check out this blog entry. %26lt;a href=%26quot;hotelsbycity.net/blog/…%26quot;%26gt;Jude Law at Kronborg Castle%26lt;/a%26gt;The timing%26#39;s definitely right for your trip, and I suspect it would make for a most memorable birthday.

thank you very much for this, can I just buy the tickets on the day of travel at the station or should I buy them in advance? Is the advantage of buying in advance that we get a cheaper price? Or is there a possibility that we wont get seats if we try to buy on the day?

Good idea re Hamlet but I have just looked at your link and it looks like it starts after we have moved on, shame!

You can buy tickets on the day of travel at the station, but you will most likely pay the full fare if you do so. Trains in Denmark rarely sell out, but it%26#39;s recommended to reserve seats in advance if you want to travel on a Friday or a Sunday.
