Driving from Oslo to Copenhagen

In the first week of October we will visit Stockholm drive to Oslo and then drive down to Copenhagen...and back to Stockholm all in a week!

Any tips on whether we should cross over from Oslo to Copenhagen by ferry or through the Oresund Bridge?

Many thanks,

Gabs

Once you reach Helsingborg in Sweden you have the choice of the ferry to Helsingør in Denmark and then drive down to Copenhagen or continue down the Swedish coast to Malmø and cross on the bridge.

The ferry tickets and the bridge crossing cost about the same, but the drive via the bridge is about 60 kilometers longer.

You could be adventuresome and do both. I personally love drive the scenic route along the Danish coast.

Thanks a lot for your help; we shall then cross over by ferry and go back to Stockholm through the bridge. As you said, we will try both ways.

I%26#39;d also choose the Helsingborg-Helsingör ferry. Then do not take the highway, but the smaller coastal road 152 to Copenhagen. The scenery is worth the extra time it takes.

Heading back to Stockholm the fastest way is to take the E4. Unfortunately it is a very dull route. Somewhat better is E22, Kalmar on the way is worth a stop. Driving CPH to STO takes practically the hole day, so there%26#39;s not much time for tourism and in Oct it will be dark quite soon in the evening.

I agree that E22 via Kalmar is a more interesting route, but only if you have the time to take at least two days for the drive from Copenhagen to Stockholm. If you only have one day for that drive, then you should choose the fastest route, which is E4. And there are still some scenic parts to that drive - through the province of Småland for instance, and along Lake Vättern (just north of Jönköping).

Hi!

Just wanted to let you know you have another option as well... Since you are driving som much in only one week, I would definitely recomend taking a ferry all the way from Oslo to Copenhagen...

This ferry leaves at 17.00 and arrives copenhagen 9.30 the next morning. You will then have a cabin to spend the night in, and in the evening you can relax on the boat instead of spending an entire day on the road. For 2 people an a car, this trip would cost arround 180€, and it will save you the cost of driving about 600 km, and one night in a hotel.

Since you are doing quite some driving Stocholm-Oslo and Copenhagen-Stocholm, this would absolutely be my first choice.

Check this site for times and fares (fares vary from the type of cabin you want)

Have a nice trip!

We have booked a car from Hertz but the prices depend on the car category and duration of time. It also depends on whether you pick up and drop off the car in the same location or not.Have a look at their website and you can do a calculation of the cost by imputting your dates and car choice.
