cash or credit card

I will be in Copenhagen in July...

For one day pre cruise...

Are USA credit cards accepted in resturants, shops and taxis ?

There was a post somewhere where someone stated that credit cards from the USA are not accepted in shops and resturants only taxis....something about a special chip in the credit card...

is that old information?

|||

It%26#39;s true that we now got chips in the socalled %26quot;Dancard%26quot;s, but that does%26#39;nt meen that Cards without chip can be used. Most stores still take %26quot;normal%26quot; cards, however there are shops that does%26#39;nt.

Thank you so much...I will get some cash at the airport...

Hey, by the way how many Kroners for a glass of beer?

or a glass of wine?

Someone out there said 15 dollars or approximately 65 Kroners does that sound about right?

|||

Sounds right if you plan to take all your glasses of beer at Nyhavn or at your hotel. 25-40 Kroner (depending on size of beer) would be more like it.

Copenhagen is expensive, yes, but not THAT expensive.

|||

That sounds much better to me...

Who knows where all of this information comes from.

Thank you for your info and I will be thinking of some more questions...

Hope I don%26#39;t bother you too much but I really appreciate your help.

Some of the information you%26#39;ve received is not correct, but most people who have a dankort just assume things work the same for every credit card. Not true!

Food stores such as Super Best, Netto, Merlin, Irma and places such as the post office (!!!!) do not accept non-DK cards, with or without chips, even from neighboring countries like Sweden. Small bars and restaurants off the beaten track in general tend not to accept non-Dankorts either. Someone correct me if I%26#39;m wrong, but I%26#39;m also pretty sure that even DSB, the train service, will not accept non-dankorts. The S Tog machines certainly do not.

Taxis seem to take cards from every country without a problem, and the larger restauarants in tourist areas will as well, by and large. I would suggest using your card for these places, and keeping cash in your wallet for the other places mentioned.

Before I got the coveted dankort, I was forever having to run out of bars and restaurants to the nearest ATM.

Actually the ticket automats at DSB that accept cards will accept Dankort, VISA/Dankort, VISA, Eurocard, Mastercard and Diners. Also the food stores owned by Dansk Supermarked will accept credit cards, so you can use amongst others in Bilka, Føtex and Netto.

Thank you for the info...it is these little things that can make one%26#39;s travel difficult !

So, there are alot of atm%26#39;s around that will take my non DK card? It will not be a problem to just get cash from them with my mastercard or visa ?

Interesting post for me as our daughter is studying abroad in Aarhus for a year. We are sending her over with a USA debit Mastercard. Does anyone suggest she get a different kind of card while there? This is all so confusing to me but I suppose if she can get enough cash out of a ATM to get through the day/week she will be fine.

any advice please?

Susan
