Where to stay in Copenhagen?

My husband and I are going for the first time next spring and are trying to look ahead and find out the best areas to stay in and good budget options. We also are wondering about staying a night in Roskilde? Would that be interesting?

just got back last week. And I just posted a review for the Avenue hotel. It is not a centrally located hotel but I was looking for a hotel that included breakfast. Property was a decent choice. We went out to Roskilde for one day to see the Viking museum and the cathedral. We bought the Copenhagen card for 3 days that cover lots of things but not the Viking museum.

I don%26#39;t know what else you plan to do, but I think a day trip is enough.

Roskilde is very close, it would be silly to pack the suitcase and stay the night over. You can also catch the late bus/train if you want to go out in Roskilde.

Try Cabinn hotels, they are very cheap, locations are good, but the rooms are not so spacious.

Also check out the %26quot;Scandic%26quot; hotels. Very good standard, and high value for the money.

A head cold in Copenhagen!

Can help me with what medicine to buy for a bad cold that I caught in Sweden? I don%26#39;t recognize any of the American names-----Tylenol cold %26amp; sinus, sudafed, mucinex, any help would be appreciated---I can%26#39;t leave Copenhagen until I can taste again!!

Go to a pharmacy (%26quot;apotek%26quot;) and ask if they have anything for what you need. There might be alternatives.

September a good time to travel?

Hi again,

I%26#39;m just wondering if September is a good time to visit Denmark. I%26#39;m travelling this weekend but not sure if the weather would be too cold - that cycling and kayaking tours would be unpleasant if not impossible?

Understand that Copenhagen does get windy at times - is the weather similar to that of Amsterdam in spring? And also can I ask about what time the sun sets in the evenings?

The forecast for the beginning of next week is cloudy with some sunny spells and mainly dry. From Wednesday there will be more showers. Day temperatures mainly from 13 to 18C. The sun will be setting around 7:15pm.

Day trips from Grenaa

My children(will be 6,5)and I will be going to Grenaa next summer. We will be staying at my grandmother%26#39;s summer house. Unfortunatly, she is not of the best of health... so I am looking for some day trips that I can make with the kids when she is resting. We have been to Grenaa numerous times so have done most things there, as well as Ebeltoft. I will even consider staying one night somewhere. After a week my husband will be coming and we will drive down to Billund (Legoland, then over to Odense and then finally to Relatives in Copenhagen.

Does anyone have any suggestions for day trips with the kids?

Another Currency Question

Hi,

I%26#39;m visiting Copenhagen this week and would like to know if the best option to get my money changed from USD to DKK would be at the airport or at a foreign exchange bureau? Do they charge commission fees and such?

I know it%26#39;s always easier to withdraw cash from the ATM but I don%26#39;t have a proper credit/debit card issued from the banks here Qatar that actually works overseas. So I always have to end up bringing everything in cash.

Appreciate if someone can please enighten me ...

The best would be if you could wait until you get to the main station and find FOREX. It is the cheapest and easiest way. They don%26#39;t charge you when buying foreign/domestic valuta and if you keep your receipt, you can for free exchange the rest of the kr that you haven%26#39;t used back to dollars.

I agree, use an exchange bureau like Forex or Change Group, who both got several offices in CPH. Generally You get more out of using one of these, instead of a normal bank.

By the way - don%26#39;t confuse %26quot;Forex%26quot; with %26quot;Forexchange%26quot;. Forexchange got offices in the airport, and got sky high prices. Besides taking about 40DKR they also charge about 15% of the full amount! That can add up pretty fast.

Well if you don%26#39;t have danish cash or a credit card that will work then you won%26#39;t be able to buy a ticket to go to Copenhagen central for the Exchange like the other%26#39;s are recomending???. I can%26#39;t see how you would avoid changing at the airport - however i totally agree - do NOT use Forexchange. There are a couple of banks inside the departure terminal before you head downstairs for the bags. You could use them....

A day to visit Malmo & Odense

Hi all, I would like to plan a day%26#39;s trip to Malmo %26amp; Odense. Is that possible?

And what is the best %26amp; cheapest mode of transport? Rail I guess right? Should I invest in getting a rail pass as well?

You%26#39;ll need a day each for Malmo and Odense - they are in opposit directions.

Train or bus will be the cheapest but I don%26#39;t think a railpass will be worth it. A one country pass to Denmark does not cover the trip to Malmo.

Really? I thought the only main attraction there was Hans Christian Anderson%26#39;s birthplace.

I mean I do like scenery and all, but reason I wanted to visit Malmo was so I could say I%26#39;ve visited Sweden :P I would have liked to visit Stockholm and the rest of Sweden, but time is a factor on this trip. :(

Seems like folks are saying it is not possible to squeeze both cities in a day. I thought Malmo was pretty nearby via train from Copenhagen. And Odense was about 1.5hrs away from Copenhagen as well.

You are correct. The main attraction in Odense is Hans Christian Andersen%26#39;s birthplace. You will not find many other things that you can%26#39;t find in Copenhagen. Train trip is 1:16 to 1:31 each way.

Train to Malmo takes 0:35 each way.

If you go to Malmo you should not miss a visit to Santiago Calatrava%26#39;s Turning Torso.

Sorry of course it%26#39;s possible to visit both places in one day if all you want is to be able to say you%26#39;ve been there.

But especially Malmo has interesting places that takes a while to get to - Turning Torso for one - and to wrap your mind around.

One thing, is it advisable to book train tickets online or should I purchase them on the train - considering I%26#39;ll be there during a weekday - I am not sure if I%26#39;ll encounter rush hour inter-city traffic. And I don%26#39;t think there are much discounts for us.

You can%26#39;t buy them on the train - just buy them at the station right before you leave. You can buy them all at the same time at Copenhagen Central just explain to them what you want to do.

Early flight to catch - Trains operating?

I have an early flight leaving from Copenhagen Airport at 8:30am, and will need to there by 6:30am for check-in. Will the trains be up and running at 5 in the morning or do I have to splurge on a cab? I%26#39;m staying at the Scandic Sydhaven Hotel. Thanks in advance!

yes all trains run or start at 5am. Metro every 6 minutes, all other trains at least every 20 min. However your hotel is not on a direct line to the airport. You will have to walk to %26quot;Sydhavn%26quot; station which is only 200 meters. Take any northbound train to Central station and change here for trains to the airport.

You hotel is only 10 km from the airport - so a taxi might be a good idea. No traffic problems at that time.

By the way just so you know. This hotel is outside central copenhagen and nothing much is going on in that area. However going to and from city center with the %26quot;S-train%26quot; is easy and only takes 10 minutes.

A taxi (max 4 pax) to/from the airport will cost around DKK 200. Taxis are a bit more expensive between 4 pm and 7am and on weekends.
