Copenhagen Itinerary August 23rd, 2009

DonTomas, katrineCPH, JensenDK, Andreadoria56, adrianfm and Violuschka, I am arriving in Copenhagen on a Sunday via The Jewel. I%26#39;d like to do the following all in my 8 hour day there:

Amalienborg Square, The Little Mermaid, Tivoli (Logismose Shop - Nimb Complex), Stroget, Canal Sightseeing boat to Nyhavn, Round Tower, Mad Og Vin Magasin Du Nord on Kongens Nyhavn, Specialkoebmanden, A Fair Restaurant (is the food good?).

Should I use the Netto Bikes?

Are there laundromats here, if so locations?

Internet Cafes, locations.

Post office, locations.

Locally made soaps, locations.

Large size clothing - Field%26#39;s 1, Sal NR 334 (please plug into my itinerary) and Arne Jacobsens Alle, 2300 Copenhagen S (please plug into my itinerary).

Thanks,

Deb

Hi Deb,

Let me start by telling you what you%26#39;ll have to strike from your itinerary:

Neither the Løgismose shop at the Nimb complex or Specialkøbmanden are in business any more.

Then as you arrive on a Sunday - Mad og Vin will be closed as will alle the shops in the shopping center Fields.

Here%26#39;s what you will find open:

Post Office - you have to go to the central railway station - across from Tivoli - a few transactions like money transfer are not possible on a Sunday but it%26#39;s open 10 am - 4 pm.

You%26#39;ll find a large internet café right across from the main entrance to Tivoli. It%26#39;s called Boomtown and open 24 hours a day.

Then there%26#39;s you need for a laundromat - it will take a huge chunk out of you few hours in Copenhagen timewise - I%26#39;ve found a list of laundries not too far from central Copenhagen:

http://2300bryggen.dk/butikker/vaskeri.htm

The top four are open on Sunday - you have to have a huge amount of Danish coins ready for the machines.

That%26#39;s the practical stuff - hope someone will sort the sightseeing for you.

Andreadoria56, thanks for your info. Very, very helpful. For the Post Office, I only want to mail some postcards. The laundromat may or may not be a stop, it%26#39;s sort of a just-in-case thing.

Do you know of another store, other than %26quot;Specialkoebmanden%26quot; that would sell souvenier type things such as: spices, teas and sardines? Locally made soaps?

You didn%26#39;t comment if you knew if %26quot;A Fair Restaurant%26quot; serves good food. I also have another restaurant on my list %26quot;Rex Republic.%26quot; Please let me know if they serve good food.

I had planned to order some monet from my local bank here, prior to my trip. I do like to havesome of the local monies in my pocket.

And with striking the obvious off my %26quot;To-Do List,%26quot; is there any sort of direction I should take when leaving the port. Should I use locl transporation or hire transportation. Looks like I%26#39;ll be visiting just Amalienborg Square, The Little Mermaid, Tivoli, The Round Tower, The Stroget, Post Office, Boomtown and the Canal Boat Ride. If possible can you or any of the other Copenhagen Experts take me from the port through my tours and back to the ship? I%26#39;d really just like an itinerary that takes me in a complete circle.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I%26#39;m fairly certain your cruiseship will dock at Langelinie, which is a fairly long stretch along the harbor, so the distance will vary depending on the exact location of the ship. But if you don%26#39;t mind walking, then you can cover all of this on foot. After you get off the ship, turn left so that you%26#39;ll have the harbor on your left (as you head south). The Little Mermaid is no more than a quarter mile away from the southern part of Langelinie, so that%26#39;s an easy walk. Then continue south (=same direction) and after about 3/4 of a mile you will have Amalienborg on your right, about two blocks in from the water. There%26#39;s a large square in the middle and you can see the buildings from where you will be walking.

After Amalienborg, continue south in the same direction and Nyhavn is just about a quarter mile away. If you turn right when you get to Nyhavn, then you%26#39;ll end up at Kongens Nytorv (large square) and on the opposite side of the square is where Strøget pedestrian street begins. After a bit more than quarter mile on Strøget make a quick detour onto Købmagergade (turn right) and walk for a couple of blocks. You will see Rundetårn (Round Tower) on the right hand side of the street from some distance away. Then head back to Strøget, make a right and it will take you to Rådhuspladsen - the large open square with City Hall on your left. Tivoli will be across the square (one of the side entrances). If you want the main entrance you head straight ahead, on the left side of Vesterbrogade, and you will see the main entrance on your left after a short walk (after crossing the square). All this is an easy, pleasant and interesting walk.

Enjoy København - a great city!

The Jewel of the Seas is docking at Langelinie Pier.

I will suggest that you walk along the pier towards the city to The Little Mermaid. Continue along the waterfront to Amaliehaven and Amalienborg Square. Walk further to Nyhavn for the Canal Boats. Depending where you ship is docking at Langelinie Pier the distance to Nyhavn is 2,000-2,500 m.

Join the Canal Boat Ride from Nyhavn. After the ride cross Kongens Nytorv to Stroget. Walk up Stroget to Kobmagergade. Turn right and walk up Kobmagergade to The Round Tower.

Walk back to Stroget and continue on Stroget to Town Hall Square. Cross straight over Town Hall Square on continue on Vesterbrogade to Tivoli and Boomtown. Total walk from Nyhavn to Tivoli is about 2 km.

Bus 26 goes straight back to Langelinie Pier from Town Hall Square.

You don%26#39;t need a Post Office to post your post cards. Most (if not all) places that sell postcards will also sell stamps. Then just drop the cards in one of the red letterboxes you meet on your way.

Hawaiipalms, thank you so much for your advice. Do you know of another store, other than %26quot;Specialkoebmanden%26quot; that would sell souvenier type things such as: spices, teas and sardines? Locally made soaps?
