Cruise ships

Having just had a very helpful answer on the Oslo forum, I%26#39;m sure I%26#39;ll get a similar response here!

I wanted to find out where the bigger cruise ships dock in Copenhagen. We will be there overnight in July on Grand Princess. As we have already stayed in Copenhagen on a city break, we are keen to do our own thing, rather than go on organised tours. There is usually a shuttle bus to a central point if the ship is a way out of town.

So, any information gratefully received, either from locals or previous cruisers.

Hi,

The Grand Princess is docking at Langelinie Pier (Langeliniekaj).

City bus #26 goes to the city centre about every 20 minutes.

We just took a cab, cost about DKK 75 IIRC to the Tivoli area. The HOHO bus also went out there, but I%26#39;d already forgotten exactly where our ship had docked 4 days earlier so not sure how far you%26#39;d have to walk to pick it up.

Thanks for that very useful information. We prefer to use local transport when we can or walk if it%26#39;s not too far.

In Oslo, you%26#39;ll be much closer to the downtown area. Langelinie in Copenhagen is further away - right around 2 km from the Nyhavn/Kongens Nytorv area. But you could easily walk that in about 20 minutes. The advantage: you%26#39;ll be passing by the Little Mermaid as well as Amalienborg, one of the Royal palaces.

Yes, thanks for that, we figured we%26#39;d be very close to the Little Mermaid, which we walked to when we stayed in the centre of Copenhagen on a city break. So we%26#39;ll be going in the reverse direction this time.We were just remarking how invaluable TA is when you are planning trips. I%26#39;m sure if someone said they wanted to go to the North Pole there%26#39;d be someone who would advise!! (Think I%26#39;ll pass on that trip :-) )

So am I safe in assuming Celebrity Century docks at the same pier? Should I buy a 10 clip card for me and my wife? Are Glyptotek, Tivoli Gardens, Stroget, Statens Museum and netto boats in walking distance from where Bus 26 drops you in city center? We are all seniors but in good health so we can do some walking.

If yiu are on the cruise 30th July Celebrity Century is docking at Langelinie Pier.

A 10 clip card (for 2 zones) cost DKK 130 and will give you and your wife unlimited travel on buses and metro for 5 x 1 hours. A cash ticket gives you unlimited travel for 1 hour.

Bus 26 passes close to all the places you want to visit.

For Statens Museum (Art?) you should get down at Solvgade.

For Netto Boats you can get down at either Kongens Nytorv (and walk to Nyhavn) or at Holmens Church (Kirke)

Glyptotek, Tivoli Gardens and Stroget are within walking distance from Town Hall Square.
