Drive from Frederikshavn Across Denmark

Hi,

We plan to be driving from Frederikshavn across Denmark down to Odense or Copenhagen in a day.

What we know for sure (ferry already booked) is that we%26#39;ll arrive in Frederikshavn in the evening, have a good night%26#39;s rest (suggestions for B%26amp;B/Guesthouse?) and then spend the whole day going across denmark, checking out sites along the way. We%26#39;re accustomed to a driving holiday, so all day driving with stops to see stuff works for us! We want to spend the next night somewhere in Denmark (not copenhagen, maybe odense?) within 2-3 hours drive from Malmo, where we have to drop the car off on the 3 day... so:

Day 1 - arrive in Frederikshavn late evening - need place to stay.

Day 2 - Drive across denmark - suggestions / routes / place to stay / eat.

Day 3 - Drive to Malmo to return car by 10am. Depending on where we end up staying, we can adjust how early we have to get up to get to Malmo by 10am.

After we drop off the car, we%26#39;re spending 4 days in copenhagen, so we don%26#39;t need to include it (or Roskilde) in this leg of our journey.

Any advice appreciated!

Depends when exactly you arrive at Frederickshavn (and what interests you). You cd go up to Skagen for the night; near where Skaggerak and Kattegat (seas) meet and once an artist%26#39;s colony. We%26#39;re doing your journey in reverse with lunchtime ferry from frederikshavn and will be spending previous night in Skagen. From Funen (staying in Faaborg rather than Odense) we shall drive via Aarhus. However apart from in reverse we%26#39;re doing it all at a more leisurely pace too!

You could look at viamichelin.com which gives you alternative routes (quickest, sightseeing etc) and mileage, timings etc.

Skagen, Silkeborg, Viborg, Ribe is some of the places in Jutland I like the best - especially Ribe and Viborg.

I would probably chose to stay somewhere else for the night on Fyn - Svendborg is a nice place.

If you are into gourmet food and fine lodgings Falsled Kron is the place to be, but it%26#39;s expensive.

I picked Faaborg over Svendborg as I thought it is prettier? I stayed in Falsled Kro with my parents a long time ago when it was just another Kro (and not my father%26#39;s first choice in southern Funen either, I%26#39;ve found his carbon-copy of the letter he sent to the tourist board then!). I have fantstic memories of that whole holiday so am looking forward to revisiting DK next month.

There is a hostel near the Kro so it%26#39;s possible to stay cheap and splurge on the meal if you want.

Fallingstill, another option wd be to shorten slightly your time in Copenhagen and take the rest of the country at a slightly less breakneck speed. You cd go to Roskilde en route to Malmö for instance. We are going to be in Copenhagen for 2-and-a-half days then start touring (5 nights in DK before ferry to Göteborg). Even so we are having to be selective, inevitably. It%26#39;s a small country but still lots of to see!

Thanks for the suggestions, our goal is more getting to Copenhagen than seeing all of Denmark, so we are pretty set on spending the most time there. Whatever we can see en route is bonus :)
