Need Help - Lots of DK ?'s Car ATM Tivoli

My Danish mother (in her young 70%26#39;s and is still a citizen of DK) is taking my teenager and 2 other younger cousins to Denmark on the 14th of August.

1) My mother was told that ATM machines that Denmark would be a cash preferred country. I was hoping to give my daughter an ATM card with spending money so she could buy gifts and withdraw Kroner as needed. Is this true? We just got back from Ireland and used our credit card when possible and took out cash here and there for cabs, tips, etc. as needed. If ATM%26#39;s are rare - we have a problem. Please help.

2) My mother does not really want to drive in Denmark. Her Danish brother does not have enough room for all in his car. It only seats 5 (2 for him and his friend/spouse and 4 for her)....She has been told that if she rents from the USA she can not add a Danish driver to her rental. She finds that USA rental is cheaper than DK rental. Can she not add an additional driver that is a Danish resident? Yet, she is Danish (ok green card)...please help...she needs the rental yet, would like her brother or other family member to be behind the wheel. My teenager is too young. And we are trying to save $.

3) Tivioli - My mother plans to arrive from Washington DC to Copenhagen and go directly to Tiviloi to enjoy the day (ok - exhausted but she is with excited teens+tweens). Her brother does not plan to meet her until later - can she leave the luggage in a locker at the airport? Suggestions? Apparently there is a 3+ day pass or something to visit more than 3 times (and she will). She is over 70 so there is something for her too. What is the best way for her to get to Tivoli ?? - there are 4 traveling. We just got back from Ireland so a Taxi made the best $ sense for 4.

Thanks in advance - I am a bit embarrassed since I am 1/2 Danish and have travelled there often over the years.

Kind regards! TAK!!!!

Hi,

1) There are plenty ATMs in Denmark. Denmark entered the %26quot;plastic age%26quot; in 1983 with introduction of a specially Danish pay card/debit card %26quot;Dankort%26quot;. The first ATMs were installed in 1984.

2) I guess you can%26#39;t add a Danish driver because tourists get the rental tax free.

3) There are both lockers and a manned cloakroom at the Central Station (which is opposite Tivoli). You are probably thinking about CPHCARD - …citybreak.com/Search/Other/SearchOther.aspx… - (which includes entrance to Tivoli). CPHCARD includes public transport in all Copenhagen and entrance to many attractions. A card valid for 3 days cost DKK 450. Entrance to Tivoli is DKK 85, Fridays after 20.00 DKK 125. The easiest way to get from the airport to Tivoli is by train. The train station is beneath terminal 3. Trains depart every 10 min and the ride to Central Station takes 13 min. Normal fare is DKK 31.50/adult. Clipcards (10 journeys) cost DKK 170. Train fare is included in CPHCARD. A taxi from the airport to Tivoli/Central Station will be about DKK 200.

1st - Thank you for your FAST reply.

2nd ATMs - My mom feels certain since she phoned her bank in DK.....it just did not make sense. We travel a lot......so really there are plenty of ATM%26#39;s if I get my daughter an ATM/credit card. I just want her to be able to withdraw money and not depend on her grandmother.

2nd - Car - not good since she does not want to drive - she is getting older and would prefer the escort of family. sad news. but thanks.

3rd Tivoili - Thanks for the advise. I did not even know about the site/card you mentioned. She just called Tivoli and got pricing....more research needed. The train station lockers/check seems terrific. Memories are coming back from my own childhood traveling in DK.....Wow, the station was just there near tivoli! I hope the model trains exist in the station - wow....bumped into Victor Borgo there....miss him....La Glace....the candy factory.....walking street....I have to work and will not be going......

Thanks again.....I am ever grateful!

I agree on the ATM isue. It%26#39;s impossible to walk more than a few minutes without passing an ATM machine.

One thing though. If you plan using your credit cards in shops remember to have your pin code. Otherwise you most often will not be able to use it.

Regards

Adrian
