Traveling to Scandanavia for First Time

Hello:

I am currently planning my trip and figured to use the best free resource around in Tripadvisor! I will be flying from Chicago on August 21st and am deciding whether to fly into Copenhagen, Stockholm or Amsterdam. Which is the easiest/simpliest? Stockholm is the least expensive at moment by $150 usd. I will have 9 full days and would like to see Stockholm, Copenhagen, and Amsterdam. What is the best method for transportation between these cities? Train? Is this doable with three nights per city... I will be traveling alone, enjoy visiting museums, nightlife, shopping, dining, etc. Thank you for any suggestions or help!

Also, can anyone reccomend any reasonable hotels/B%26amp;Bs/hostels to stay or sites for these cities? Thanks!

Amsterdam is not in Scandinavia.

As far as Scandinavia goes, I%26#39;d fly into Copenhagen. I lived there for a couple of decades of summers and have always flown into it. It%26#39;s a very nice airport and Copenhagen is quite central. Happy Travels!

You can take train between these cities. That will take over 5 hours between Stockholm and Copenhagen, and about 11hours between Copenhagen and Amsterdam, or a very long night.

Check on the danish railways: dsb.dk

Since you have only 9 days for three cities, I would fly to Stockholm, spend a couple of days there, then take the night train to Copenhagen. Seems that it departs from Stockholm C (Centralstation) at 21.55 and arrives next morning at 7.17 in Copenhagen.(But not on Saturdays, it seems) And you will not need a hotel bed that night.

From Copenhagen I would fly to Amsterdam. Frequent services all day, short ride out to the airport, easy to get from Amsterdam airport (Schipol) into town.

Have a nice trip!

Thank you. What is cheapeast airline to fly from Copenhagen to Amsterdam? Also, is it best to fly back from Amsterdam to Stockholm if book that flight? Thanks!

|||

Cheapest airline between Copenhagen and Amsterdam is probably Norwegian (http://www.norwegian.com/en/). Other operators on the route are SAS and KLM.

Amsterdam-Stockholm is operated by SAS and KLM only.

Maybe an idea to book an open jaw ticket - flying into Stockholm and out of Amsterdam.

With just 9 days, I would suggest skipping Stockholm. It%26#39;s a nice city, but in many ways remeniscant of Copenhagen, and - without wanting to offend Stockholm - a city you can live without seeing. Thing is, for 9 days these three locations are really not easy to combine.

Amsterdam is close to so much. I don%26#39;t know what you have already seen in Europe, but from Amsterdam (if you absolutely want to see more than two large cities) you can get to a number of interesting central European cities by train in just a couple of hours. Bruxelles, Antwerp and Brugges in Belgium are all nice and quaint with great food - and then of course Paris, about a 4 hour train ride from Amsterdam.

Flying from CPH to AMD is a breeze. There are many airlines, including several discount airlines. National carriers KLM and SAS, discount Cimber, Norwegian, Transavia. Try momondo.com or similar flight site to check whos cheapest on your dates. The flight is just short of 1½ hours.

Cimber and Transavia do not fly between Copenhagen (CPH) and Amsterdam (AMS).

True, when Cimber was Sterling, they did, and Transavia stopped doing so, sorry about that.
