We are hoping to go to North Germany in Summer 2010 and I thought that since we are almost at the border, why not visit Denmark as well for a week. Searching on the Internet, I keep getting suggestions on what to do in Copenhagen.
Can anyone suggest places between Germany and Copenhagen to visit that would interest a couple with an 12yr old. We are not into museums. Quaint villages, scenery with walks, cultural activities and shopping are what we like. I did come across Odense.
It also appears that it is quite expensive in Copenhagen. My husband says Sweden is more expensive but it seems the other way around. Should or can we stay outside Copenhagen and go in for a day trip? We will have a car or can take the train if parkiing is a problem. What about from Odense? Any suggestions on places to base ourselves. We tend to go for self-catering apartments and B%26amp;Bs (altho it seems these hardly exist or come without the breakfast and have shared baths).
If we do get as far as Copenhagen, then I would like to go across to Malmo.
Also anyone been to Romo. From photos on some websites, it looks like a very quiet place.
Thanks for any help and suggestions!

I%26#39;m quite sure Denmark is more expensive than Sweden at the moment. Danes flock to Malmö to shop.
Used to be different, but that%26#39;s quite a few years ago. Malmö might be cheaper to stay in than Copenhagen and transportation is easy - there%26#39;s a train every 20 minutes.
Now to start with Romo - it is a very quiet place - lot%26#39;s of summer houses and lot%26#39;s of German tourists in them.
But on a sunny, summer day the trip across the long dam and onto the amazing wide - at low tide - beach is great.
I do however think staying in and around Ribe for a few days would give you more opportunities.
Ribe is interesting in itself - a tour at night with the watchman is fun, also the vikingcenter is good.

And from there you can do trips to Mandø - a less touristy island out in the Wadden Sea. Best way - most fun - to go out there is on the Mandøbus - a tractor-bus - able to drive even when the tide is coming ing.

On the way stop by the Wadden Sea Center:

Odense is a nice town - much pivots around H.C. Andersen. Another interesting town on Fyn is Svendborg with access to a number of islands like Langeland, Tåsinge og Tåsinge.
On the way to Copenhagen stop by on Møn and visit Møns Klint - amazing white chalk cliffs with lot%26#39;s of nice walks and an interesting museum - yes I know you don%26#39;t like them:

Next stop in Roskilde - a lovely place to just explore on foot - has a nice market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.
Also a huge Vikingmuseum with the possibility to go sailing in a viking boat.

Well just some ideas - hope others will chime in.

Thanks Andrea, you%26#39;ve already mentioned quite a few things/places which I haven%26#39;t come across while scouring the internet.
