I will be in Kristiansand Norway on business in early October. I have decided to visit somewhere I have never been on the way back to Canada. I thought that Copenhagen would be great choice, close, famous city, on possible flight lines etc.
I only have two nights and am looking for advice on a very short itinerary. I want to stay downtown, see a few main sites, eat some local food, but mostly visit some interesting local pubs. Any thoughts?

Since you only have couple of days, I would suggest that you waste no time. Get up early in the morning and find one of the buses that drive you around and guide you through the city. In that way you will get quite good impression of the city. Take a map with you and try to follow where you drive, note the things (streets, areas etc) you want to explore more.
For the impression of local life, visit Latin Quarter (in the evening there you can find Floss, local pub nr.1) and Vesterbro (Vesterbrogade, Istedgade - specially part from Gasværksvej towards Enghave Plads, Halmtorvet and Meat District, here called Kødbyen).
Local food - apart from Smørrebrød (open sandwiches) not worth trying. But if that is what you want to taste anyway, then chose one of the following:
Lumskebugten - http://www.lumskebugten.dk/
Aamanns - http://www.aamanns.dk/index2.html
Notice: Lunch only!

If the habour/canaltours still run i october (i think they do) you shold try one of those. A nice and quite cheap sight that will give you a good impression of the citys habour and canals. Get onboard at Nyhavn or Gammel Strand. The netto boats are super cheap (unlike anything else in CPH) www.havnerundfart.dk/
Another must is climing the churchtower of Frelser Kirken

Enjoy :-)

AAmans have opened a restaurant, open at night, great danish/french food:

Thanks for your input. I will be in Copenhagen 8-11 October. I have read that there will be many foreign dignitaries in town (read Obama) for the IOC. Will there be road closures downtown or security issues at the airport? Also, I understand that Denmark is playing Sweden in a World Cup Qualifier. Is this played in Copenhagen, are ther sports bars where I can watch?

Obama will be long gone before you arrive in Copenhagen. He will only be in Copenhagen for about 5 hours on Friday morning (2 October).
Denmark is playing Sweden in Copenhagen on 10 October. The match is sold out. O%26#39;Leary%26#39;s at Copenhagen Central Station is about the best sports bar in Copenhagen.

You bet! Almost each pub :)
Find some bodega with TV and enjoy!

Ok if I cheer for Denmark? We are not fans of Sweden, it is a hockey thing.

I would prefer any other bar than O%26#39;Learys, it%26#39;s overpriced and lacks atmosphere. Find a small local pub with a tv instead. EVERYBODY will show that game.

Jazbo; I will be there at that same time frame.....if you are interested, drop me an email and we can have a coffee....I travel alone alot, but once in awhile it%26#39;s nice to have someone to compare notes with.....
