What is the accepted types of currency for use in Copenhagen? Is the Euro accepted? What currency is accepted if we travel over to Sweden?

Hi,
The currency in Denmark is Danish Kroner (DKK).
US Dollars and Euros are accepted in some places, but at a - for you - very unfavourable exchange rate.
The currency in Sweden is Swedish Kroner (SEK).
US Dollars and Euros and even Danish Kroner are accepted in some places, but again at a - for you - very unfavourable exchange rate.

Can the DKK be easily obtained at a cash machine at the airport or should I get some DKK in the USA before I leave.

There both ATMs and bank counters at the airport.

We just got back from Denmark and Sweden. Most places accepted our US Mastercard. In Sweden we were even able to user our Danish paper money. It was much easier than I thought it would be.

I just came back from Denmark, but we also found that they didn%26#39;t give changes in Denmark. For example, if you give them 50DKK, and the stuff is 45, the store would NOT give you the change back. At first I didn%26#39;t realise that because I didn%26#39;t count the money, but my friend found that it was true in every store. Does anybody know why? I mean even if it was a penny stores would give it back to you in the UK or US.

Superkathy - I think - or hope - what you are talking about is not getting 0.25 kr. back.
If a cucumber costs 9.75 dkr. and you hand over 10 dkr, then you would expect to get 0.25 kr. back, but you don%26#39;t.
The reason is that particular coin was discontined a while back but the prices have yet to be adjusted.
The rule is up or down to the neares 0.50 - smallest coin.
If you pay with a credit card it will however cost 9.75 and stores are not allowed to charge 10 instead.
If something costs 45 dkr and you hand over 50 dkr. of course you%26#39;ll get 5 dkr. - big round coin with a hole in the middle back.

%26gt;%26gt; if you give them 50DKK, and the stuff is 45, the store would NOT give you the change back
If that is the case, you have been cheated. I have never experienced that.
Since the 25 ore was abolished 1 October 2008 the smallest coin denomination is 50 ore, so prices (only the total) is rounded off to nearest 50 ore.
E.g. the price is
44.00-44.24 you pay 44.00
44.25-44.74 you pay 44.50
44.75-44.99 you pay 45.00
That%26#39;s the rule when you pay cash. If you pay by card, the exact amount is charged. Cash registers in shops do the rounding off automatically.

Warning: if you pay be card you may be charged an extra fee, in some shops, restaurants and hotels. We paid a surcharge at a restaurant in Tivoli and at various other points in our recent stay in Denmark.
If I%26#39;d been aware ofthat I%26#39;d prbably have taken a bit more cash with me. However if you use an ATM for cash you also get charged so it%26#39;s prob. about the same really.
