Weather in July

My son is going camping to Denmark in July - Anyone got any idea about the weather ther at this time? Not sure what sort of rating to get for his sleeping bag etc.

|||

July is usually a very nice month in Denmark with some days of temperatures above 30C.

The nights are long and warm - ususally about 15C.

However it can rain - so the most important camping equipment will be a tent that can withstand heavy rain when a thunder shower pass.

cheaper to take food out of restarant than eat in

Hi I%26#39;ll be in Denmark the lst 2 weeks in Sept. Is it true that it is about half the price for drink or food if you do takeout instead sitting in?

|||

Not quite sure what you mean.

It sounds as if you%26#39;ve heard that you could go to any restaurant and get food and drink to go and then save 50 percent.

That is not the case. Many restaurants do not sell food or drink to go.

However it is true that generally prices at take away places are cheaper than in restaurants.

Need Help

Hi,I am going to arrive at CPH Airport at 13:05 on 21/5/2009 at Terminal 2 and I want to take the train from CPH Airport to Copenhagen Central Station as I will stay at The Palace Hotel.

As I read in the past reviews, I have to go to Terminal 3 to catch the train wich costs 28.50 DKK per sigle which includes 3 zones and takeS 30 minutes.

My questions are:

1. Is it really cheaper than takeing a taxi directly to the hotel from the airport?

2.How to go from Terminal 2 to Terminal 3? Can I use te free bus or the distance is easy to walk and where can I foind the bus in Terminal 2?

3.I planning to go to Malmo on 22/5/2009, does the discounts card includes the trains To/From Malmo or not?

4.I will leave CPH Airport to Milan Malpensa on 24/5/2009 at 8:25 AM, is it ok to take the train back again and can I buy a return ticket from the airport or it%26#39;s better to take a taxi?

Thanks in advance for your help.

|||

1. A lot. A taxi will run you around 200 DKK.

2. They are not huge and are connected. Easy walking distance. 5-7 minutes maximum.

3. Don%26#39;t know about that one. Someone else?

4. No need to buy a return. Just buy a ticket at central station. Again, a taxi is of course easy, but about 150-170 kroner more expensive than the train.

|||

Thanks Don Thomas

|||

Just at a supplement to the answer from DonThomas:

A one way ticekt for the trip from the airport to central Copenhagen is now 31,50 dkr but still way cheaper than a taxi.

The trip takes exactly 13 minutes - a lot faster than a taxi at most times of day.

All passengers leave the bagage claim in Terminal 3 - so even if you land at terminal 2 you will have walked to the terminal where the train stops before you go through customs.

And no discount cards like clip cards, Copenhagen Card or a 24 hour card does not cover the trip to Malmö.

You buy the ticket at the stations just before you want to go.

|||

Thanks Andrea your reply really added value..it is highly appreciated

Island of Samso

I am studying abroad in Copenhagen and I would like to go to this Island. Could someone help me out and let me know what there is to see there and how do you get there? Do you know of a tour company that will book this trip?

|||

Samsø is a beautiful spot to visit with some of the most exciting nature to discover in Denmark, small, cosy villages like Ballen with its fishing port and lively cafescene after dark, Nordby is another remarkable village on the northern part of the island, once voted the most beautiful village in all of Europe, I believe. Catch the train from CPH to Kalundborg, the ferry ride across to Samsø takes a few hours, bring your bike for transport - can go on the train and ferry. Visit: www.samsoeturist.dk for more detailed info. You should be able to arrange all on your own, its easy with the aid of the tourist bureau on Samsø. Have a good journey! (Used to live on Samsø some years back!)

|||

What types of things can you do there?

Rock Climbing in Sweden

I am studying abroad in Copenhagen and I am interested in a Rock climbing tour in Southern Sweden. Could someone give me some advice on a tour company and the best location to do this?

|||

Not meening to be rude or anything, but are You aware that Copenhagen is not a part of Sweden - It%26#39;s the capitol of Denmark. Many poeple think that Copenhagen are a swedish city, part of Germany, or something like that.

That%26#39;s not the case.

I suggest that You ask Your question in a swedish forum - like e.g. Stockholm forum (capitol of Sweden). I think You%26#39;ll get better answers there.

Have a nice rockclimbingtrip - Sweden is sure a perfect place for such activities.

|||

Ough - just noticed that You study here, so offcourse You know in which country CPH lies in. But I%26#39;ll still recommend thatyou ask on a Swedish forum. Don%26#39;t know if there are forums for any of the towns in southern Sweden.

|||

I did ask this in a Sweden forum as well, however, I wanted to ask in this forum as well because I am sure Copenhagen people do this as well. Thanks for the info

Inexpensive Smorrebrod?

Can anyone could recommend a good and inexpensive place to try smorrebrod near Tivoli (but not inside)? A food court or take out type place is even better, because I%26#39;d like to make it a quick lunch. For a more specific budget, how about under 60 DKK...

I did search, but I didn%26#39;t see any places that were near where I will be or within my budget, but I could have missed something.

Thanks,

PolarBear

|||

Hmm, this is a tough one. There is a take-out place very close to Tivoli on Vesterbrogade - right in front of the central train station, next to the SAS Royal. However, I have read some bad reviews about the place but haven%26#39;t tried it myself. You could perhaps stop by and have a look at the window display and judge for yourself?

Also, in the area is Ritz smørrebrød on vester voldgade 8, right by Rådhuspladsen. Haven%26#39;t had first hand experience at that one either since they always seem to be closed when I am around, but have heard that it is quite ok and prices are reasonable.

The best place to get take out smørrebrød in CPH is hands down Aamands on Østre Farimagsgade. This is nowhere near Tivoli, but if you happen to be in the area (e.g to see the SMK art museum, the lakes or Østerbro)this is an absolute must. Smørrebrød and service is excellent, prices in the 40-50dkk range. Had take out from there myself today and it was very, very delicious, decorative and nicely packed. Not much help for you if you need to be near Tivoli, though.

Perhaps someone has first hand knowledge of the other two places?

|||

Dear Polarbear,

You really have not tried smørrebrød if you get cheap stuff for take out, it%26#39;s just not the same sitting somewhere with food that%26#39;s inferior on a paper plate messing with a plastic knife and fork.

Part of the experience is to visit one of the nice older places like Told og Snaps, Huset med det Grønne Træ, Tivolihallen (close to Tivoli and a wonderful place)

Even a place like Grøften in Tivoli is part of the magic.

|||

Hi mytravelquestion,

Thanks for your suggestions, that%26#39;s exactly what I was looking for. One place I%26#39;d found near

the station was called Bon Appetit, not sure if that is the one you mentioned on Vesterbrogade.

I will be closer to Aamands later in the day and had wanted to go there based on good reviews I%26#39;ve seen, but the issue is that I%26#39;m in Copenhagen for a very short time, and around lunch I will be arriving from the airport, heading towards my accommodations near Tivoli.

Hi Andreadoria56,

I%26#39;m in Copenhagen a very short time, less than 24 hours on a stopover. I feel it is a more effective use of my time to just try smorrebrod quickly so I can spend more of my afternoon visiting attractions with limited hours. I%26#39;m not looking for the full experience this time.

Thanks,

PolarBear

|||

Hello again,

I know where Bon Appetit is located, but I thought it was more of a sandwich place, so had not thought of the place for smørrebrød. If they do indeed have smørrebrød this might be a good option for you. The one I thought of is on the opposite side of Vesterbrogade and a bit closer to Rådhuspladsen, next to a pharmacy and the SAS Royal. I walked past it the other day and it really did not look too exciting. Ritz on Vester Voldgade is just an additional 4 minute walk from there and it might well be worth the extra effort if Bon Appetit does not have smørrebrød.

Enjoy CPH

Adventures

I am arriving in copenhagen mid may and will be there for six weeks, I am looking for adventure. Could someone please help me out with canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing or anything else. I am wiling to travel to Sweden for some fun. I cannot be gone more than a weekend for a tour.

|||

On this side You can find links to both Kayaking and climbing. It%26#39;s a danish website, but You can get it translated via Google:

www.kajakhotellet.dk/group.asp?group=122

The kayaking-tours with %26quot;kajakOle%26quot; are arranged in the channels of Copenhagen, and is a kind of sightseeingtrip where most poeple can participate.

If Youwant extreme rivers and stuff, Sweden is the place to go!!! You can try to google whitewaterrafting in Sweden, or something - I%26#39;m sure that a lot will pop up.

Also try and look at this side:

outdoorexplore.dk/product.asp?product=419

They arrange a wide variety of both climbing (alpine and climbingwalls) and kayaking and lots of other outdoor-activities - and I think there prices are very reasonable.

Good luck with the activities.

Bike Copenhagen with Mike

We will be visiting Copenhagen in August and will have the day free before boarding our cruise ship and are interested in seeing some of the major highlights by bicycle. Has anyone done the %26quot;Bike Copenhagen with Mike%26quot; tour? If so, was it enjoyable and worth the time? Also, my husband and I are both in our late 50%26#39;s and don%26#39;t want to do anything too strenuous but are certainly capable of biking 10-15 miles over fairly flat terrain.

I certainly appreciate anyone%26#39;s input.

|||

Well, I don%26#39;t know anything about mike, but I can tell you that Copenhagen is about the flattest capital you can find. You%26#39;ll be hard pressed to find a bump in the road.

|||

We are from the States also and planning a trip to Copenhagen in early September. We had looked into this bike tour with Mike also. (We are in the same age range as you also.) If you do decide to venture out on bikes with Mike, would you mind posting a follow-up to this thread when you return to give us an idea as to whether it%26#39;s a good sightseeing option. Thanks very much ahead of time!

|||

Biking with Mike is decidedly the best way for any kind of traveler to see this fabulous city. I’m a veteran two-wheeling tourist, and much too independent – and impatient – to do tours. Happily I made the exception here because I had little time and wanted to get the lay of the land quickly so I could explore on my own more efficiently later. The one drawback of sightseeing while cycling is that you have to stop to look at the map, and some areas of Copenhagen can be rather confusing. So, having someone give me a crash course (not literally) on how to get around was great.

I found the tour was a rare bargain in this expensive city, and very convenient. No need for a reservation that would tie me down, I could just show up at the central train station at 10 any day of the week rain or shine and he’d be there. The standard tour is about three hours and takes in all the must-sees, with just the right number of stops and short talks about the history, etc. Mike also threw in a bit of social commentary I found interesting and insightful, but he also cordially invited me to tell him to shut up anytime I found the “guidance” boring or annoying. But he’s so well-traveled (and multi-lingual) and delightful that I didn’t have to employ that option and actually pried him for even more info and insights.

Mike also offers an “alternative” tour, which my group opted for, that includes some of the grittier neighborhoods and some off-the-beaten track sights, such as a little enclave of tiny bungalows with lovely gardens. They were built early last century to give urban families a retreat from the grind of the inner-city, where some of the poorer neighborhoods became death traps during an epidemic. The alternative tour is also just a nice ride and, though it added an hour to the tour, there was no extra charge.

Copenhagen is mostly flat and Mike’s ride is quite slow and very safe. I was lucky my group was small even though the summer rush had already started, but you can tell Mike can manage a crowd the way he nimbly herds any stagglers. My group included a mutinous 7-year-old who cried through the first half of the trip, then threw his bike down and just started walking away. His family (I was surprised to see because they were Americans who typically coddler their kids) said something like “Just let him go, he always does this.” But Mike retrieved him and whatever he said on their walk back jollied the little fella enough to get him to hang on through the remaining two hours with no more tears!

I’m always trying to convince people whatever their fitness level that bikes are the best way to sightsee. It’s just too slow and hard on the feet -- or the wallet -- to do otherwise, especially if you don’t have a lot of time. Copenhagen is particularly the case for this: It isn’t called the world’s best biking city for nothing! There are bike lanes on every major road and many of the smaller streets, and the paths along the many waterways and parks are wonderful. But still, though it is so user friendly, even for hard-core bikers like me, getting all the must-sees in without getting lost or having constantly to consult the map gave me plenty of time to explore on my own later, and Mike is great for giving tips on how to do just that – and just about anything else you want to know about the city.

Obviously, I can’t say enough about how great this tour is. I hope all will try it. And once you’re hooked on the touring on two-wheels thing, start lobbying your city to get better bike paths!

Lego Land

Has anyone been to Lego Land in Denmark recently? I have a child who is loving legos these days and am considering a trip in the next few years. I was interested in visiting there when I was a kid, so I am wondering if the quality and ambience is still high and worth a trip.

|||

Hi

I havent been to Legoland since I was a child, but one of my friends went there with her child and they both loved it, so I am guessing it is still a good experience :).

You should however be aware that Legoland is in Jutland wich is in an entirely different part of Denmark than Copenhagen, so you would have to rent a car or take the train to get there.

:)

|||

We were there last summer. Very nice, but very expensive. It is smaller than the typical American theme-park, but still provides at least one day of entertainment. The many Lego buildings are amazing. We stayed at the official Legoland Hotel which overlooked the park. Very convenient, but also very expensive. But if you are going to go all the way there why not spend the extra mony and stay on the property.

|||

Thanks for your advice. Can I ask which month you went? And was it busy?

Thanks again.

Short term accommodation in Copenhagen

Hello,

I am about to start a 6-week internship in Copenhagen and am looking to rent a single, furnished room in the city from early May to mid June. My budget is a maximum of DKK 4000 per month. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

|||

Sorry for4 the late and dissapointing reply:

I don%26#39;t see it happening.

Even for a long term lease, 4000 DKK a month would be very optimistic. For 6 weeks it is highly unlikely.

You need to adjust your budget or find someone to share with.

|||

Hotel 9 Smaa Hjem have rooms about 1225 per week at their annex on Thorsgade.

BEWARE ads on Craigslist and expat sites. Many are scams. If the English is bad, if the pictures look like the interiors of US homes, if the prices are too good to be true, if the contact is via hotmail or yahoo mail... it%26#39;s a scam.

I agree with the first reply that 6 weeks would be next to impossible--especially at 4000 DKK per month. You can try DSB.dk for %26quot;fremleje%26quot; (sub-lets) as it might be possible to find a short-term flat while someone is away on vacation, but your Danish needs to be good enough to understand the details there, and something in that price range will be snatched-up within an hour or 2 of being posted.

|||

Heh... laughing at my reply just now.

Sorry -- DSB will get you train tickets; I meant that you can try DBA.dk for short-term apartment lets.

|||

Hi,

I am sorry that this does not help you but I am in the same situation. I wonder if you find any thing yet. Maybe I can get some advices from you. Thanks

|||

I%26#39;m aware that these links I%26#39;ve found are over Your budget, but that%26#39;s about the best we can do with such short notice.

The 1.st link is a paper where private poeple put in ads about renting out rooms and apartments. The prices varies a lot, and it canbe dificult to get the best of them, as there are lots of poeple trying. You need a telephone and lots of patience.

In most - if not all - cases, You will have to put down 3 months of rent for deposit. You%26#39;ll get it back when You move out.

Be aware that some poeple will try and charge You extra money %26quot;under the table%26quot;.

www.dba.dk/asp/Soegning/soegning.asp…

These 2 links are different - and expensive - but still a possibility.

www.midlertidigbolig.dk/?pageID=1%26lang=

visitcopenhagen.dk/privatevaerelser/koebenha…

The side below is a MUST for You to read - do Yourself that favor.

studies.ku.dk/housing/…

If You still can%26#39;t find anything reasonable, there is the possibility that You can put on an add in the paper(1.st link)where You tell what You%26#39;re looking for, and then poeple can contact You - sometimes it helps to put Yourself outthere.

I hope that all of You having trouble finding a place 2 stay, will have a lucky break. How about the possibility of finding a roomate - You can also advertise for that.

Good luck.

Copenhagen to Gothenburg train

Hello!

Does anyone know where to book for a train journey from Copenhagen to Gothenburg? I%26#39;ve tried http://www.sj.se but can%26#39;t seem to find Gothenburg listed as a destination here.

Any help would be great! Also, any info about where the train leaves from or how to get cheap tickets would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Grant

|||

Hi Grant,

http://www.sj.se does not like English names, only Swedish.

Gothenburg = Göteborg C

The trains leave from the Central Station in Copenhagen and has a stop at Copenhagen Airport before proceeding to Sweden.

The Intercity and X2000 seem to be cheaper if you book well in advance. Other trains seem to be same price whether you book early or not.

You do not need to book your tickets in advance.

Hans

|||

Great!

Thanks Hans.

|||

%26quot;...or how to get cheap tickets...%26quot;

SJ.se have been advertising 95 SEK each way for some months now in Copenhagen newspapers (I don%26#39;t think you could walk it that cheaply!). A quick check for you, picking a random date late June (24th) found seats for 90 SEK, with a total travel time of just 3 hours, 33 minutes from Köbenhavn H to Göteborg C. A seat reservation adds 41 SEK. Or, first class showing this date for 185 SEK which includes seat reservation (+ newspapers, coffee, tea, wifi internet).

Taxi from airport to cruise ship pier/terminal ?

How much does it cost to take a taxi from the airport to the cruise ship terminal? How long does it take to get there? My flight arrives around 4:30 pm.

Are there any transportation alternatives to do the same trip? And how much and how long?

Also does Denmark use Euros or some other currency?

|||

Hi,

A taxi will cost about DKK 180-200 and take about 20-25 mins. Could be slightly more as you arrive during the afternoon rush hour.

There are public transportation alternatives, but as cruise ships dock at 3-4 different locations in the port, more specific information about your cruise ship and date is necessary to give you exact information about the alternatives.

Denmark do not use Euros, but Kroner.

Hans

|||

I have similar questions: we arrive at CPH around 7:30 am and our ship does not leave until 8pm that day. what are the better ways to use our day in the city? what terminal will Emerald princess be docked on Aug. 4th? Thanks,

|||

Hi,

Emerald Princess will be docked at quay c245 (Kronlobsbassin) in Copenhagen Free Port on August 4th.

I suggest you take the train (DKK 31.50/pp) from CPH to the Central Station and deposit your luggage there for the day (there are both lockers and a serviced cloak room) and do some sightseeing in the city, e.g. a stroll down Stroget (pedestrian zone) to Kongens Nytorv, a canal cruise, Tivoli Gardens etc.).

From the Central Station you can either take the S-train (DKK 21/pp) to Nordhavn station and walk to the cruise ship (about 1 km) or take a taxi (DKK 100-120).

Hans

|||

Thank you so much for the info. We will do that.

Hilton Airport Hotel: where to go for dinner?

I will be at Hilton Airport Hotel for 1 night before leaving for Greenland next July. Are there any restaurant, except the hotel one? We wouldn%26#39;t like to dine at Hilton: is there any restaurant out there? or is better to go to Helsinki by metro? we will arrive at 5pm. Thank you in advance

|||

I assume you mean taking the metro into Copenhagen and not Helsinki, but yes that would be my suggestion.

Hilton at the airport is in an area with no dining option.

If you get the metro into the city, get off at Kongens Nytorv then you are right downtown and have many options to choose from.

It%26#39;s an 11 minute ride so it%26#39;s not a big deal.

|||

yes of course is Copenhagen!!! thank you for your help!

|||

Just heard from a friend that there%26#39;s an excellent Italian restaurant in Best Western at the airport. The hotel is much cheaper than Hilton and about 5 mins taxi drive away from the airport.

Their group stayed there before flying to Greenland. And BTW Ilulissat was awesome, I was told.

Copenhagen to Aero

What is the best way to get from Copenhagen to Aero? I know there is a ferry from Svendborg, so I suppose my question is really, what is the best way to get from Copenhagen to Svendborg? Is there a direct train? And about how long does it take? Finally, would it be worth renting a car and driving instead?

|||

The trip takes about 2 hours and 20 minutes - you either go by train to Odense and then continue on a local train to Svendborg or you get off the train at Nyborg and continue by bus.

You can look up connections here:

www.rejseplanen.dk

Renting a car is not cheap in Denmark - gas is very expensive and you have to pay to cross the bridge between Sjælland and Fyn - it%26#39;s 215dkr each way.

If you do rent a car be sure to get a reservation for the ferry crossing.

|||

Thanks. What would you suggest is the best way to get from the airport to the train station? I am thinking that we might go to Odense/Aero first and then return to Copenhagen.

|||

Every third train leaving the airport goes to Odense - if you want a stopover just grab any train from the airport they run every 20 minutes - the trip to the central station tages 23 minutes.

The direct train to Odense leaves the airport at 40 minutes past the hour.

|||

Great! Thanks so much!

|||

Small correction: It%26#39;s only a 13 minute ride between the airport and Copenhagen central.

|||

Another correction, trains between Airport and Copenhagen C go every 10 mins (during normal hours).

5A bus from airport to city with luggage ok?

I saw many advice to take the train from Airport to the main train station, but it looks like the Airport train station is near Terminal 1 and I will have to catch a shuttle bus to it from Terminal 2.

Instead I found that there is the 5A bus stop close to Terminal 2, and the bus will take me slightly closer to the Marriott Copenhagen.

We are a party of 2 and will each have a piece of luggage and a carryon bag. Will the bus allow us on board?

If not, how far is the train station from Terminal 2? It might be %26quot;easier%26quot; to walk to train station instead of waiting for the shuttle bus.

Thank you.

|||

Hi,

At CPH airport you may land at T1 or T2, but there is only one place you get your luggage from and only one exit from there. When you get out of there the train and the metro stations are very close. I suggest you to take the metro - fast, no problem with the luggage. Norreport station is in the city center.

|||

Thank you. I saw the Metro option also. We will be good so long as they are ok with us having a big piece of luggage each.

Actually I was reading the map wrong previously. The train station is actually under Terminal 3. I was looking at the legend and confusing that with the actual station. Oops. Should be more careful reading.

|||

Don%26#39;t worry about the luggage, I have never had a problem, and I usually have something like 30 kg with me. In the busses there is a section from mothers, old ppl, handicaps - you can place you luggage there. Plus it is a bus from the airport - usualy people with luggage takes use it.

But again - metro is the best, then train and finally - the bus.

|||

Since your hotel is Marriott, train or bus 5A from airport to Central Station would be simpler. Metro would require a change at Nørreport to a train headed back to Central Station. (Central Station is not served by the Metro). Bus 5A takes a longer, but it does stop a bit closer to this hotel.

|||

Airport to Marriott is easiest by taking the train to Copenhagen Central Station and then taking bus number 66 from just outside the railway station. Trains go every 10 mins and bus 66 goes 4 to 5 times per hour. It%26#39;s door to door service, the stop is about 10 steps from the Marriott entrance.

Airport to Marriott Hotel - transportation options

What are the transportation options %26amp; approximate costs from the Copenhagen airport to the Marriott Hotel?

|||

I asked Marriott about the cost of taxi %26amp; was told ~220dkk (~$40). They also told me that they won%26#39;t provide shuttle service.

|||

You can use public transport - a ticket costs 31.50 dkr - there%26#39;s a 500 meter walk from the central station to the hotel.

|||

Just got back from the Marriott, lovely hotel and really enjoyed Copenhagen.

As advised, take the train and walk the last bit, it%26#39;s not far. If you come out of the station and have Tovoli in front of you, then turn right and walk straight down to the canal. If you come out the front entrance, turn right, follow the path and you%26#39;ll see Tivoli in front of you, then turn right and keep walking.

It helped me knowing where Tivoli and the Radisson SAS hotel were, to get my bearings.

|||

%26quot;You can use public transport - a ticket costs 31.50 dkr - there%26#39;s a 500 meter walk from the central station to the hotel.%26quot;

Or take bus 66 from outside the railway station, takes you to the door of Marriott. Same ticket applies.

Busses from copenhagen to Gedser

Want to known if they have a bus system from copenhagen to Gedser.

Thanks

|||

Hi,

There are no direct buses from Copenhagen to Gedser. Are you going further than Gedser? Berlin maybe?

Direct buses from Copenhagen to Berlin:

http://www.eurolines-travel.com/

http://www.graahundbus.dk/indexe55.htm (danish only)

There is a daily direct train to Gedser that leaves Copenhagen Central Station at 08:03. It takes 2.5 hours to reach Gedser and cost DKK 177.

Other possibilities is train from Copenhagen to Nykobing F and then a bus (39 %26amp; 43) to Gedser.

Hans

|||

I was looking all around for information, sometimes in Danish and it is difficult. We will be in Copenhagen in July and after we are going to Rostock, Germany to rent a car so we need the train to Gedser and after the ferry to Rostock.

Thanks for the info.

|||

Hi,

There is a bus from Copenhagen to Rostock.

2 daily departures from Copenhagen:

dep. Copenhagen 06:30 arr. Rostock 10:45

dep. Copenhagen 16:15 arr. Rostock 20:45

One-way fares from DKK 149

Thanks

We have now two options to go to Gedser, more reliable if one is not working. Looking forward to my trip in Denmark.

Hi Deb,

What do you find interesting? What%26#39;s interesting for me are maybe not interesting for you. Please tell what you find interesting, e.g. museums, architecture, art, shopping etc. Then the suggestions you get will be more qualified.

Karlslunde strand

Hi

We are travelling by car to Karlslunde Strand apartments [ folk ferie ] in August from Esjberg ferry terminal.

Has anyone stayed here recently? We are a family of 5 and looking for activities for the children aged 6 to 11 years.

|||

Hi there

First of all it%26#39;s very easy to get to Karlsunde from Esbjerg... Motorway all the way except the last 2 km...!! - and should take around 2.5-3 hours to complete.

Of-course visit to th nice beach is a must. Other than that there are plenty of stuff to drive to - for instance:

(I have focused on the kids and stuff not in Copenhagen. There are LOTS more if you also choose to drive to Copenhagen)

1) Køge mini by. Complete city build of small model houses. Very impressive.

http://koegeminiby.dk/index.php/en/home

2) BonBon land. VERY good for kids!!!! Don%26#39;t miss.

http://www.bonbonland.dk/

3) Fantasy World (Next to BonBon Land)

(Free when you buy entrance to Bon Bon land)

http://www.fantasy-world.dk/

4) Køge Svømmeland - fun swimming.

http://www.svoemmeland.dk/

5) Sporvejsmusset - Old tram%26#39;s - Fun for kids and you get to ride some of them.

http://www.sporvejsmuseet.dk/

6) Vikingeskibsmuseet in Roskilde - Old viking boats.

http://vikingeskibsmuseet.dk

7) Knuthenborg - Drive inside animal park (it%26#39;s a 1 hour drive from Karlslunde - but must not be missed!!!!)

If you need something in/close Copenhagen let me know.

www.bikecopenhagenwithmike.dk

Just returned from a weekend in Copenhagen. In a previous tour of Berlin I did and excellent bike tour of the city so was keen to repeat this in Copenhagen. Scoured the net and plumped for http://www.bikecopenhagenwithmike.dk/

Turned up for 10 am on Monday morning (literally 50 yards from the main station). It was a gorgeous day and on this occasion I was the only person! Don%26#39;t take this as a negative - I%26#39;m not Mike%26#39;s only ever customer! (That%26#39;s what he tells me anyway!) There are a host of testimonials and from many others too - he had over 20 on the tour the previous day! My single attendance was no bother to Mike who duly completed the tour with me. It was a fantastic 4 hours (in the end after my early puncture! This required a trip back to base and a few laughs on the way!) Mike speaks perfect English and we meandered our way round all the sights of Copenhagen stopping for him to give entertaining anecdotes and a personal view of life from a Danish perspective. We discussed everything from football, to Danish people, the royal family, football, swedish women, football and also a bit of culture (no honestly, we did!)

Like many European cities Copenhagen is built to cater for the cyclist. It%26#39;s pretty much all cycle-laned off, very flat (yesss!) and very safe - all very important for non-regular cyclists like myself! We saw numerous lovely sights (see website) - we even went off the beaten track to see the last resting place of Denmark%26#39;s favorite fairy taler H.C.A) and had a great philosophy debate on the meaning of life! Very enlightening Mike - really enjoyed that. Highlights included the feeling of the sun and wind in your face as we cruised alongside the many lakes and canals. It was liberating, relaxing and exhilerating all at the same time and made me question my office job! Remember I am not a cyclist so this does not require super-fit people to do this. It was the highlight of my weekend - I spent about 6 hours walking around the previous day and saw about 1/10th as much of the city as I did on the cycle tour. In summary - get in there and try it - you will not regret it - Danes have a great sense of humour - this one does anyway! We had some good banter as the English were blamed for Denmarks demise in the 1800s (tour price goes up!) then praised for bailing them in World War II (tour price reduced again!)

Thanks Mike for a memorable 4 hours - nothing was too much trouble (I caused him enough with my puncture and my coat and drink gear constantly falling off my bike rack!) but he took it all in the right spirit and much fun had all the way. Can%26#39;t recommend it enough - it%26#39;s not often you see a Danish man with orange glasses! Get down there all, take the mickey out of a mad Dane and take in all the sights of Copenhagen while getting a great suntan - I%26#39;m burning up right now! Would be great to see a post from anyone else who has done the tour to compare notes...

Copenhagen to Malmø

Hello Friends,

We plan to visit Copenhagen this weekend and also plan to take a days trip to Malmo (morning to evening). In regard to this, we have a few questions. Pls help us answer this:

a. Copenhagen to Malmø: Which is the cheapest way to travel(train or bus)? I believe the train is the ideal choice. Is there any way of getg some discounts for 2. Is online reservation possible? If not, is it easy to get tickets in the train?

b. At Malmø: From what I%26#39;ve read it appears that most of the tourist attractions in Malmø are close to the station. Can anyone recommend anything which is a must see?

c. Currency: What is the currency that I can use at Malmø, is DKK or Euro used there? Or should I arrange SK?

I%26#39;m sure I have lot many questions...but I guess I%26#39;ll stop with this and try to answer the remaining myself :)

cheers.

|||

a. swebusexpress.se

b. true

c. SEK, swedish krona. Can withdraw from ATMs on arrival, or just pay for things with your credit or debit card and then maybe won%26#39;t have to bother with cash. DKK and USD... maybe in a few very touristy places, but at a bad exchange rate.

|||

More questions..

a. Does swebuss travel over the bridge?

b. Where can I book train tickets? Internet (or) on board? http://www.skanetrafiken.se/? If internet...are the fares same on-board also?

|||

Hi,

a. yes

b. www.sj.se/sj/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=10%26l=en

You don%26#39;t need to buy tickets on the internet. You can%26#39;t buy tickets on the train. You have to buy tickets from either a ticket machine of the ticket office at Copenhagen C. There is no discount for advance buying.

Hans

|||

You can also take the ferry from Nyhavn - last time I did that, I payed 25dkr as a student. It%26#39;s a nice trip, if you%26#39;re not in a hurry :)

|||

Not to confuse things, but Dasini what ferry might that be?

As far as I know all ferries stopped running when the bridge opened.

|||

Trains and busses use the bridge. Bus is the cheapest way with advance purchase. Graahundbus offers a competing service, but is usually not as cheap as Swebus. http://www.graahundbus.dk/index999.htm

|||

Ok...I see then Swe Bus is the cheapest. Now, is the Bust stand in Copenhagen and Malmø both at a walking distance from the City Centre (also the station)?

|||

Can you pls tell me exactly from where can I catch Swe Bus in Copenhagen and what is the stop in Malmø I have to book for?

|||

hmm I took the ferry 4 years ago.. maybe it%26#39;s not there anymore. Dunno

|||

Yep I see that it stopped in 2005 - I must have taken one of the last trips. Sad tbh - was a really nice trip :)

Private tour in Copenhagen

Does anybody know of a reliable and fine tour operator to organize a private tour for a group arriving aboard a ship?

|||

This question is usually asked at least a couple of times every season - so far nobody have reported back on who the found.

My guess is that it will be very expensive and you%26#39;d be just as happy with getting on one of the tour busses or a guided boat in the harbour and canals.

On this website you can finde the standard tours - and also links to the organization of private guides who might be able to help you plan a private tour.

visitcopenhagen.com/tourist/…_excursions

|||

You could also try this:

I%26#39;ve read numerous rewievs regarding Mikes tour and it seems to be really great for everybody - from small children to elderly poeple.

I hope You will love Our great city. If You have anymore questions, don%26#39;t hestitate to ask.

Bus Terminal in Copenhagen & Malmo

Hello all,

a. Can someone tell me where do the buses for Malmo take off from Copenhagen? Is it anywhere close to the Tivoli garden? What is the name of the exact point, so that I can trace it on the map.

b. Also what is the final destination point in Malmo? Is it anywhere close to the city centre? I just want to visit Malmo for 3-4hrs...so will I be any where close to the heart of the city?

c. Do buses from http://www.gobybus.se/ %26amp; http://www.swebus.se/ start from the same place? I%26#39;m geting a good deal for Malmø from Copenhagen by goBus...its 55 min journey. Would anyone recommend?

cheers.

|||

Hi,

a. Ingerslevsgade/DGI-byen (close to Central Station)

b. Svävarterminalen at Skeppsbron 10 which is close to the city centre

c. Yes - (I find that swebus is about half price of goBus)

Hans

|||

There is also the train option, which I personally would prefer. Also during weekend and holidays they sell reduced return tickets if you travel the same day in and out.

|||

qpq332 %26amp; polarbearfin - thank you so much for the response.

polarbearfin,

I think I shall consider the train option and I see that there is a train from Copenhagen to Malmo every 20mins. Can I buy tickets on board? If yes, can I get discounts related to weekend %26amp; return fares on-board?

thanks...

|||

No, you can%26#39;t buy ticket on board. If you don%26#39;t have a valid ticket you will be fined.

You will have to buy from ticket machines or ticket counter at Copenhagen C.

Hans

|||

Just to be precise there%26#39;s nothing like a busterminal in Copenhagen.

The busses leave from the road running between the DGI-byen and the railroad tracks - just so you don%26#39;t run around looking for some kind of big building.

In my opinon the trains are the best option - they are a lot faster and run a lot more often too.

|||

And trains only cost about the double compared to Swebus, but of course run more often.

Hans

Self-catering Apartments in Copenhagen

Am going to Copenhagen in late September for a long weekend with friends and hoping to find an apartment to rent, instead of hotel rooms. Any suggestions/recommendations? We%26#39;re after something central and stylish to sleep 6.

|||

I can%26#39;t find anything for as short time as a weekend. Normally 1 week(7 days) are the least.

Here You have a couple of links to look at. The first 2 links are private poeple renting out their own private apartment. They are probably genuine, but be aware of fraud when doing it this way.

sommerferie.nu/sommerhus/danmark/sjaelland/b…

www.snus-et-hus.dk/sommerhuse-visning.php…

These next links are socalled Hotelapartments:

http://www.copenhagenapartment.dk/

http://www.charlottehaven.com/

ascot-apartments.dk/hotellejligheder/hotelle…

Hope this can help You...

|||

These two seem to be mentioned often as trustworthy agencies with short term apartments:

www.cphrentals.com

www.hay4u.dk

But for just a weekend, a hotel might be the best option, although I saw that CPH Rentals have apartments with a minimum stay of 5 days.

Personally, and that%26#39;s just me, I would prefer an agency over a private person renting out.

shopping

I know this may sound bizarre but are there any shops in copenhagen specialising in ladies leather gloves?

Thanks in advance

|||

You are in luck, there is one just in the beginning of Strøget coming from Rådhus Pladsen. It is called Randers Handsker and they have a wide assortment.First place I would go to if I were leather glove shopping.

Happy glove shopping :)

Name %26amp; adress:

Randers Handsker

Frederiksberggade 36

1459 København K

|||

Yes right at the start of Strøget from Rådhuspladsen on the right hand side - the official address is Frederikbsberggade 36 - you%26#39;ll find Randers Handsker a shop selling gloves from when s considered the worlds oldest glove factory.

|||

Randers Handskebutik on Strøget in Copenhagen sell all kinds of gloves - except for boxinggloves.

The experienced ladies in the store can calculate the size of a hand instantly, and will quickly find the right number from the drawers.

The store is all about personal service, though those times are over, when the costumers hand was placed on a little pillow, while the new glove was fitted on.

They have a very big selection of both designs and colors. Some costumers buy multiple pairs at the time, so they can match them for different clothes.

They also have a nice selection of mens gloves. The color coming up for men this season is red. Remember that - very important!

One day, not to long ago, a very special costumer came into the store. Everybody turned around thinking:%26quot;Well, is%26#39;nt that...?%26quot; And yes it was - The Crownprincess Mary of Denmark bought herself a pair of Randers-gloves.

So not only do You get the best of quality - You also get a little bit of Royalty...lol

|||

A not so bad translation of clip from Danish Radio (DR) website.

The clip is from 2005, so maybe the colour for gents%26#39; glove has changed since;-)

Hans

|||

Hehe...Thank You qpq - I think it%26#39;s quite OK to - and You must admit though, that I gave it a little personal twist.

I think it%26#39;s a cute little storie - specially the part about Mary - and also a funny thing to know as a foreign costumor.

Island of Samso

I will be staying in Copenhagen for six weeks and would love to go an visit the Island of Samso. What is the best way to get there? Who do I contact about a tour? Is there a place to spend the night? Can it be a one day trip or should it be a weekend trip?

|||

You can reach Samsø by train and ferry... your best bet is to drop into DSB (Danish State Railways) at Copenhagen Central Station and inquire.

Because of the ferry schedule, you are pretty much committed to at least one overnight.

Once you get to Samsø, you will be at the mercy of the local bus service... you will need to plan your travel very carefully, as the bus doesn%26#39;t come by often. In fact, I would consider renting a car or a bike if you want any degree of mobility there.

For accommodation, look at visitdenmark.com and search for %26quot;Samsø%26quot;.

All that said, Samsø is one of the most boring of Denmark%26#39;s many pretty islands. It%26#39;s popular with Danes who own summer houses there -- and for that it%26#39;s lovely -- but it offers next to nothing to the casual tourist. The island is extensively farmed and logged, so even the %26quot;natural beauty%26quot; is nothing remarkable.

So unless you are committed to Samsø, consider Bornholm, Ærø, Møn (disclaimer -- I am an innkeeper on Møn), Als, the south part of Fyn.

Overnight side trip by car from Copenhagen?

We will be spending 5 nights in Copenhagen, but thought it would be interesting to rent a car and drive to Helsingor and other parts of Zealand, staying for one night in the countryside, then returning to Copehagen.

Any suggestions for %26quot;must-see%26quot; attractions, including scenery, parks, etc., and also what kind of accommodations there are available?

Thanks!

|||

Hi:o)

I would recommend visiting Kronborg Castle (on UNESCOs list of the world heritage) in Helsingor, Fredensborg Castle in Fredensborg (where some members of the royal family lives) - it has a beautiful park (and if you follow the path down to Esrum lake to your left just before you come to the castle and at the end turn left walk you will find a very good icecream shop - lot of locals come here - it´s approx a 10 minute walk) - Fredensborg is roughly 20 minutes drives from Helsingor - afterwards you could continue to Hilleroed - another 15 minutes drive from Fredensborg to see Frederiksborg Castle (a renaissance castle) - a beautiful castle said to have been the favorite castle of King Christian the 4. The castle is today the home of the museum of national history. Around the castle you will find a baroque garden also worth visiting. I think this will keep you busy for the most of the day - take the coastal road up to Helsingor (Strandvejen) and enjoy the coastline (on a clear day you can see the Swedish coast) - it´s a very nice trip. Hilleroed is 30-40 minutes drive from Copenhagen, so you could drive back to the city. Next day drive to Roskilde and visit the cathedral where the kings and queens have been burried for centuries - its a beautiful church and you can almost feel the wings of history when you walk past the tombs. In Roskilde you also find the Viking Ship Museum.

If you are interested in art I would recommend a visit to Louisiana Art museum (close to Helsingor) or at Arken (to the south of Copenhagen) - also an art museum.

There is an official scenic route called the marguerite route, which takes you through some of the most beautiful parts of the country - for more information please visit www.visitdenmark.com

If you are up for it, I would recommend spending a day at Funen - the island between Zealand and Jutland. Here you could stay in Odense and visit the home of Hans Christian Andersen and take a drive to the southern parts of the island where the scenary is - again - very beautiful - you could visit Egeskov Castle where you can see antique cars, walk the tree tops and see if you can get lost in a maze (great place for children). Odense is 2 - 2½ hour drive from Copenhagen and you will drive over the Great Belt bridge - I believe its the third largest suspension bridge in the world.

Hotels you can find almost everywhere or you could choose an Inn - if you need inspiration have a look at VisitDenmark.com

Some webpages for you to visit for inspiration: www.vikingskibsmuseet.dk; www.kronborg.dk; www.frederiksborgmuseet.dk; www.roskildedomkirke.dk; www.visitodense.com; www.egeskov.dk; www.louisiana.dk

I hope you will enjoy your stay and have fun.

|||

Thank you so much for all your suggestions!

|||

All the above suggestions are 20 mins - 1 hour from downtown Copenhagen. Nice afternoon trips, but hardly worth the hassle of moving luggage for a night.

Overnight trip possibilities: Møn (biased - I own an inn there), Fyn (Faaborg and Kerteminde are lovely), Southern Sweden, Southern Jutland (though that%26#39;s done better with two nights).

Danes (especially Copenhageners) often have an odd relationship to geography (at least in the view of this expat American)... if it%26#39;s more than an hour away, it might as well be the dark side of the moon.

Just to put it in perspective, Copenhagen to Roskilde is like San Juan Capistrano to Anaheim. And less traffic.

Euro or DKK

Is the only form of currency the Denmark Kroner or may I make purchases with Euro or US currency? I will only be in Copehagen for one day.

|||

Hi,

The currency is Danish Kroner. Some shops/restaurants/taxis will accept Euros or Dollars, but at a rate that is very unfavourable to you. Most shops/restaurants/taxis accept plastic.

Hans

|||

Also the way it works is a shop will only take your euro or dollar notes and then give you change in dkr, at the appalling exchange rate.

|||

Thanks so much for your response. I was getting conflicting stories from the travel agents. I will definitely get DKK.

|||

Never ask travel agents questions about travel :-)

|||

The exchange rate isn%26#39;t that bad, though it is unfavorable. Better to draw cash from the ATM.

Accommodation Copenhagen

Can anyone recommend a Bed %26amp; Breakfast or cheap accommodation in Copenhagen for 2 nights in July.

|||

Since Copenhagen is quite expensive in general, it would help a lot if you could tell us what your budget is/how much you are willing to spend per night?

Here are a few suggestions for affordable places to stay:

Danhostel:

www.danhostel.dk/content/us/regions…

or

www.danhostel.dk/content/us/hostel_details…

Copenhagen International Bed %26amp; Breakfast:

http://www.cph-bb.dk/

Here is a website where you can search and book several B %26amp; B%26#39;s in and around Copenhagen: www.bedandbreakfast.dk/…

The price also depends on how many you are (it is usually cheapest if you are several people and book a room together), if you are willing to stay in a dorm, if you want your own bath, etc...

|||

Thanks Applesaucedk.

Sorry I was very vague. It is our first visit to Scandinavia.

We are an Australian couple, trying to book somewhere central, we were hoping to get somewhere with breakfast included and were hoping for under 1000dkk per night, we originally were looking at Hotel Nebo, but are a bit wary after reading some reviews. I have been looking at Ascot Hotel, or another option was an apartment called Latin Quarter. If you or anyone could give us any recommendations regarding area, places to stay etc.

The date we will be arriving is July 12

Thanking you

|||

We just returned from Copenhagen and we stayed at the Savoy Hotel. Our per night cost was slightly less than your stated budget amount. Suggest you check them out on the internet.

This is a smaller boutique type hotel. The room was very clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet was excellent. The location is ideal, within easy walking distance of the train station, Tivoli and the sights.

|||

Thanks I have just emailed the Savoy for their availability and rates.

Its good to hear from someone who has stayed at the hotel.

Did you enjoy Copenhagen? Its our first trip to Scandinavia.

Thanks once again

|||

We enjoyed Copenhagen very much. It is a beautiful city. We found Rick Steves guidebook to be very helpful. Have a great trip.

|||

Hi

Thanks for asking the right questions. We are hoping to go to Denmark in September 2010 would love to hear how your trip went.

My grandfather came from Aalborg in Denmark and I hoping to be able to trace my heritage before I go.

If any one is reading this, would love some ideas on when I can do some research.

Happy travelling

Another Aussie traveller

|||

We just had a couple stay at our inn (on Møn, opposite side of the country) who were researching their roots; they went away loaded down with photos and data.

The local history museums in Denmark, staffed mostly with volunteer historians, are apparently quite good with genealogy.

If you know a fair amount about your family.. what towns/parishes they came from... its certainly worth contacting the local museum and seeing what they can come up with.

In my case, I was able to show our guests farms that their ancestors would certainly have known and visited.

|||

Hi

Thank you so much for that information. I do have the parish details etc. and I will certainly contact some of the museums in the area.

Where is your inn? Would love to stay if we are in the area.

Once again thank

Best Public Transportion from Copenhagen to Helsingor &c.

We want to make a day trip from Copenhagen to Helsingor, and we are also interested in stopping to see the other sights along that route, like Louisiana Art Museum.

What is the best way to do this on public transportation?

|||

Hi,

Go by train. You can plan your journeys here:

http://www.rejseplanen.dk/

English language option at the bottom of the page.

The address for Louisiana is:

Gl Strandvej 13, 3050 Humlebæk, Fredensborg

Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde

How many clips to Roskilde from central station %26amp; how long does it take to get there?

|||

You have to clip 8 zones. Trains take about 20 minutes.

Thank you

Esbjerg Rock Festival

We are coming to the Esbjerg Rock Festival from the UK and staying at the Scandic Olympic Hotel. Does anyone know how far from the hotel the venue is and if it has car parking.

Thanks

|||

The distance is about 2 kilometers and yes there%26#39;s parking at the festival.

If you want to check it out on google maps - the festival is at vognsbølparken, esbjerg and the hotel at strandbygade 3, esbjerg.

On the website for the festival they write that the local busses will do extra tours during the festival - in case you want to be able to have a pint or two.

|||

Hi,

It%26#39;s a distance of about 2 km.

Don%26#39;t bring you car - it will be very difficult to find parking and Danish police are strict about drinking and driving.

Have a nice walk to the venue or take Bus 4. Nearest is 200 m from the hotel and the bus runs every 30 minutes.

Hans

|||

This is really useful information. Thank you.

5 June in CPH

Hi - I think I read somewhere that 5 June is a holiday in Denmark. Is this a good time to take a day trip from Copenhagen, or stay in the city? Will things be open? Since it%26#39;s on a Friday this year, does that mean Danes will be travelling for a long weekend?

My plans are flexible - I%26#39;d just like to know what to expect. Maybe a good day to go to Malmo? Tak!

|||

5 June is a holiday in Denmark, so most shops will be closed. Bar, restaurants and museums will be open.

I would choose another day to visit Copenhagen.

Hans

Go to legoland- copenhagen

Hi,

I want to go to the legoland in Denmark, how can I go there by public transportation from Denmark main station.

Many thanks

|||

Hi,

Denmark main station? Do you mean Copenhagen Central Station?

Your profile says that you are located in Hamburg! If that%26#39;s the case it will be easier to go direct from Hamburg to Legoland.

Please tell where you want to go from and you will get correct information.

Hans

|||

Hi Hans,

I am now on Hamburg, we will go to Copenhagen for 3 days and we will stay at Denmark hotel next to Copenhagen main station so we want to go from there.

Please tell me how can I go there by public transportation.

Thanks

Le

|||

Hi Le,

Train from Copenhagen to Vejle and then bus to Legoland. Journey takes about 3 hours.

You can plan your journey here (change to English at the bottom of the page):

Hi Hans,

Thank you so much for your infos, that is great.

Taxi from CPH to Malmo

There are 4 people in our group. We arrive in Copenhagen June 12, and had to book rooms in Malmo since no rooms were available in Copenhagen. Apparently there is a big race that week.

We are meeting a cruise ship the next day, so we%26#39;ll have 2 pieces of luggage a piece.

About how much will a taxi cost for 4 with luggage to Malmo?

Thanks!!!

Kris

|||

Hi,

From Copenhagen Airport I assume.

http://www.cph.dk/CPH/UK/MAIN/Parking+and+Transport/By+Taxi.htm

Some Swedish taxis, e.g. Taxi97, Taxikurir, Skåne Taxi have fixed prices - SEK 655-725 depending on company.

Danish taxis will probably be more expensive.

Hans

|||

Thanks for the website url. I did see that earlier today, but I could not find a link (in English) to a specific taxi company so I could contact them directly.

Can you just go to the taxi stand a request a taxi to Malmo?

Thanks so much for your help!

|||

At CPH there is a special taxi line for Swedish taxis (max 15 taxis).

The only company I can find with a web in English is Taxi Kurir:

www.malmo.com/guide/profile.asp…

Hans

|||

Depending on where you stay in Malmö, there is also the possibility to take the train from downstairs the airport to Malmö Central Station. Goes like every 20 mins.

|||

Thanks for your great information!

I am emailing the taxi company for a quote.

Kris

Where to get Adult incontinence products.

Hi, not for me..LOL , but I go on another forum where someone wants to know where to get adult diapers for a client who has been cleared to travel after surgery,, but still may need to wear these items.. and obviously will need to buy some there.

Are they readily available in stores, druggists, etc. Here in Canada you can get them easily , even in bigger grocery stores, but perhaps in other places it is different?

Do they generally go by brand name %26quot;Depends%26quot; or is there another popular name or brand there that this person could ask for and not confuse clerks?

Thanks

|||

Refreshingly new question...LOL...

Seen them in the same stores as babies diapers, ie pretty much every grocery store etc should have them at least in the Nordic countries if not thru out Europe. Brand called %26#39;Tena%26#39; is heavily advertised.

|||

The best option in Denmark is to go to the chain of drugstores called Matas - they have a wide variety of these products or to a pharmacy - it%26#39;s called Apotek in Danish.

Grocary stores only have products for the very light problem and none for men.

Another option for the Canal Tour is to take the public transport water busses... they have an %26quot;inside%26quot; if the weather is inclement, and if it%26#39;s sunny, the afterdeck is great. And their %26quot;stops%26quot; are pretty much the same as the Canal Tour.

On the other hand, the Canal Tour (not the Netto Boats and not the public harbor buses) gives you a guide who points out sights along the way.

|||

There a guides on the Nettoboates too. Normally they speak in both Danish, english and german.

|||

I probably should have said %26quot;competent guide.%26quot; Perhaps they have upgraded. The last time I took a Netto boat, the ticket collector, who sometimes spoke over the mike, was asked when Christiansborg Palace was built. She just shrugged and said %26quot;I dunno, 1600s I guess...%26quot;

|||

Well - it was built in the 1600 was%26#39;nt it?? Lol

I%26#39;ve been on the canaltour 3 times - 2 times with the %26quot;Netto%26quot;-boates and 1 time with the expensive alternative. Maybe I%26#39;ve just been lucky those times, I don%26#39;t know, but in those cases the Netto-guides was fully as competent as the the other guide was...

The guides on the Netto-boates are probably, in many cases, uni-students that have a sparetime- or holidayjob, where the others probably are %26quot;proffesional%26quot; guides(with a very limited course).

In most cases one will be just as good as the other - but that%26#39;s just my own experience.

|||

No, it was started in 1907 and finished in 1928. It%26#39;s the third palace on the same site, and looks nothing like the one before it -- which was started in 1803, by the way.

You will learn that on the Canal Boat tour; you may or may not on the Netto Boat tour.

If you want to learn anything on your canal trip in Copenhagen, it is worth spending a little more for a knowledgeable guide.

Copenhagen to Malmo Sweden - Cost of taxi each way

We will be in Copenhagen this June and I understand we can take a taxi from Copenhagen and go over the Orsund bridge to Malmo Sweden.

I would like to know what the fare would be from Copenhagen to Malmo and from Malmo back to Copenhagen.

Also any tips on what to see in Malmo for a few hours.

Thanks in advance for any information

blr

|||

It will cost you around 1.000 dkr. each way.

Instead you should ride the train - it%26#39;s easy, safe, clean and comfortable. Price around 120 dkr.

|||

Thanks for you quick reply. Wow what a difference.

Taxi 1000 dkr = 178.22 USD

Train 120 dkr = 21.39 USD

Reason for the taxi was to see the Orsun Bridge. Sounds like the train will be best.

|||

The train uses the bridge - it goes under the hanging part.

If you want to cross on top, there%26#39;s a bus crossing too:

It%26#39;s even cheaper - will take you across and back for 120 DKR.

http://www.graahundbus.dk/index999.htm

|||

Thanks for you interesting reply. I think the bus would be the best for us since we will go over the bridge.

I have one more question:

We will be docked in Copenhagen, is the bus stop very far from the pier? Also when we are in Malmo will it be easy for us to find the return bus to Copenhagen?

Thanks

blr

|||

Hi,

Cruise ships dock at 2 locations - Langelinie pier and the Orientbasin pier. To answer your question you need to supply date and name of cruise ship.

Hans

|||

We will be on the Azamara Journey, June 30 2009

|||

Hi,

If you ask about where Azamara Journey will be docking it might be OT in this thread.

Azamara Journey arriving from Stockholm will be docking at Copenhagen Freeport (Kronloebsbassin).

Hans

|||

May I ask wht are the things we can see in Malmo. Our ship is docked in Copenhagen Malmo Port Emerald Princess and we want to find out if we can still go around in Malmo to visit places for 4 hours thank you very much

|||

Hi,

The Emerald Princess is not docking at Malmo, but at Copenhagen Free Port - quay 245 (Kronlobsbassinet).

A trip to Malmo within your available 4 hours is too tight, so better look for somewhere to go in Copenhagen.

thnak u for that info

Approximate cost of taxi f Airport to Tivoli

What is the approximate cost of a taxi from airport to a hotel near Tivoli? Also, do all cabs take credit cards?

|||

DKK 150-170. Taxis accept credit cards.

Hans

|||

Train from downstairs of the airport to Copenhagen Central Station (next to Tivoli) 31,50. Every 10 mins.

|||

If You pay by card, remember to tell this to the driver BEFORE going anywhere - thats how the rules are....

Car Hire from Billund Airport

I%26#39;m hiring a car from Billund airport. I%26#39;m from the UK and have never driven on the continental side of the road. What is it like around Billund airport and are road signs easy to follow.

|||

Hi,

Roads are good and well signed, and signs are easy to follow. There is usually not very traffic on the roads in the western part of Jutland.

Note: speed limit in built up areas is 50 km/h and outside built up areas is 80 km/h, motorways is 130 km/h, unless signs tells you different. In roundabouts you have to give gave to traffic in the roundabout.

Hans

|||

Mostly the roads around Jutland are straight and uncomplicated, the road signs are all clear and well maintained (not like here in the UK). Although I have not driven in Denmark, having been a passenger in the car from Billund airport to Horsens, my main advice is not to get freaked out going the %26quot;wrong way%26quot; round the round-a-bouts. There are a couple around the airport so you will get some practice straight away! Also the on-ramps to the highways appear a bit different to UK, but as there is generally less traffic it should be ok to take it easy until you get the hang of it. Finally I also noticed they have put %26quot;rumble strips%26quot; on the central markings on the main road to Billund, brill idea for safety, but good to know in case you do any overtaking so you don%26#39;t get a surprise at the noise!

City tours suggestions?

I%26#39;ll be with 8 friends who are not interested in buying a guided tour from the cruise line. Is there a %26quot;hop-on, hop-off%26quot; bus that offers sightseeing? If so, where can tickets be purchased? We will need to get from the Pier to the boarding point. Any help would be appreciated.

|||

Hi,

%26quot;hop-on, hop-off%26quot; bus:

www.sightseeing.dk/regado.jsp?type=page%26id=96

Cruise ships dock at 3 different points in Copenhagen, i.e. Langeliniepier, Free Port and Nordre Toldbod. Where is your ship docking?

Hans

|||

the ship docks at Langelinie Pier. Thank you!

|||

The %26quot;hop-on, hop-off%26quot; passes Langelinie Pier, so you can %26quot;hop on%26quot; there.

Hans

Canal tour question....

We will be on a cruise and would like to do a canal tour in AM followed by tivoli. Which is more convenient from port and hopefully walk to tivoli after the one leaving from Gammel strand or Nyhavn... thanks

|||

Where is your cruise ship docking?

Hans

|||

langelinie pier

|||

The easiest way to get from Langelinie to Nyhavn is by waterbus (green line).

Go on the guided canal tour from Nyhavn.

http://www.canaltours.com/dct/en

After the tour you cross Kongens Nytorv and have a walk up Stroget (pedestrian zone) to Town Hall Square and Tivoli.

Returning to Langelinie from Tivoli you can take Bus 26 from Town Hall Square.

Kong Arthur Hotel?

Hi. Me and my wife are looking for a hotel for 5-6 nights in Copenhagen. Not necessarily luxurious, but beautiful and with sryle. We were thinking of a budget up to 1000Kr, but reading the reviews of several Copenhagen hotels in this site and other posts in the forum, I think we%26#39;ll need something like 1100-1200Kr for what we%26#39;re looking for.

A hotel that seems nice is the Kong Arthur. Do you think it is in a convinient location? Is it walking distance from the center or Nyhavn?

Or should we rather stay in another more central hotel? in that case do you have any recommendation?

The Christian IV maybe? The budget is similar.

Thanks for any recommendation!

|||

In my opinion Chistian IV has a slightly better location than Kong Arthur - but both of them are within walking distance of all major sights in Copenhagen.

Kong Arthur is close to Nørreport station that offers easy acces to daytrips north to Kronborg in Helsingør or east to Roskilde and the vikings.

From Christian IV you could either walk to Nørreport or jump on the metro from Kongens Nytorv.

|||

Thank you for your quick answer.

As you mentioned the possible daytrips from Copenhagen, we were thinking of doing one or two. What do you suggest between Roskilde, Helsingor and Hillerod?

Thanks again.

|||

You may want to have a look at this link:

www.arp-hansen.com/specials_offers/sale/

Some of the Central 4-star hotels like The Square and the Imperial are offering special rates with buffet breakfast and room rate is under DKK1000 (tax incl.)

|||

We stayed at the Kong Arthur last week. We stayed in a superior double (the second to the smallest room size), so the room size was nice. The smallest size room I%26#39;m sure would be *small*. Overall, it was a lovely hotel. The rooms were stylish and updated. The room did not feel drab or depressing, as some hotel rooms can. I looked forward to coming back at the end of the day. The bed was very comfortable. There was work being done rather early in the morning (7am-ish), which we could hear as our room faced the central courtyard, however it was not too bothersome.

I loved the location - it is in a less touristy-area right on the lakes. The city center is about a 10 minute walk right down Frederiksborrogade. Norreport station is about 3 blocks away. Rosenborg Slot and the Botanical Gardens are 3 blocks away, and the funky area of Norreport is right accross a bridge. I%26#39;m so glad we decided to stay there, rather than in a hotel closer to Tivoli/the central train station area, which appeared rather grimy to me.

If you want to stay on budget, be sure to confirm that the buffet breakfast is included in your rate. We booked through Expedia, and were not told that they breakfast was not included (we also did not ask, so shame on us) and were suprised with a $160 chrage for 2 mornings of 2 buffet breakfasts and 2 to-go breakfasts. That hurt.

Hi,

Hotel King Arthur is a very nice hotel with a great location; next to the City Lakes (a beautiful spot), next to Nansensgade - a very interesting CPH restaurant street, a little like Greenwich Village in NY, close to Nørrebrogade and Skt. Hans Torv - another cosy spot with interesting shops and lots of cafes away from the tourist trail plus the KA Hotel is only a short walk from Nørreport Train Station - the busiest in Denmark, a hub for transport anywhere.

Another recommendable hotel is Hotel Guldsmeden on Vesterbrogade, five minutes walk from town hall square and Tivoli Garden - but just tucked away in an area with a local touch and again tucked a little away from the main stream of tourists. Also next to Guldsmeden is Halmtorvet; an awesome area for quality restaurants and cafes. Guldsmeden has a very high personal service for the guest, a smallish, but cosy and comfortable hotel.

Look for deals and bargains, yes, but a few saved bucks can ruin a holiday when you arrive to your base for discoveries - your home away from home should be nice, dont you agree?

King Arthur and Guldsmeden wont let you down!

|||

For day trips out of Copenhagen there are many options, so it is all up to what your interests are.

Hillerod has its lovely, fairytale-like castle. It,s a nice walk through town from the railway-station. There is also a nice baroque garden and a big park in addition to the castle.Hillerod is also a nice, small town.

If you are interested in Karen Blixen, you could visit her home in Rungstedlund. A very nice location, house and garden.

Roskilde has its cathedral where the kings and queens of Denmark are buried. History, cathedral and architecture. And a nice town.

Elsinore has its Kronborg Slot. (Castle)

In Humlebæk, you find Louisiana musem of modern art. A very nice setting. Interesting exhibitions, even if you do not know that you are interested in modern art.

Have a nice trip.
