Thank You Don Thomas + my restaurant review + suggestion!

Hello all

Having recently arrived back from Copenhagen, I thought I would write a little something with regards to our restaurant experiences.

Firstly, we had a great time in CPH, stayed at The Bethel - review to come......very central on the Nyhavn.

Eating out was a delight and we tried many of the speciality dishes and enjoyed lots of fish and caviar and the Smørrebrød - yummy.

I was going to add to the %26#39;how expensive is Copenhagen%26#39; thread, but instead will add here - it can be expensive as you make it! Mealtimes can be pricey, especially for our friends from the US and the UK....but you can eat at reasonably priced places away from the Nyhavn (albeit charming, they do add on the Kr!)

That brings me to thank Don Thomas for his wonderful recommendations, (a list I printed and took with along). Last Tuesday, we decided that it was off to the Madklubben for dinner and we took our map and meandered down the Store Kongesgade to no.66. On our merry way, I pulled out my critique and glaring there DonT had stated %26#39;reservations a must%26#39;. Please be advised and to avoid disappointment this certainly IS the case!!! It was too late in the journey to heed see those words of wisdom!

Upon arrival at the Madklubben the charming Simon informed that we could have a long wait if we decided to stay. Oh dear, it was past 8pm and we were a tad hungry. He did say that their other restaurant, the %26#39;other one%26#39; %26#39;Den Anden%26#39; would have space and mapped out the route.

I must say that Madklubben looked wonderful with nice subdued lighting and dark wood and a fanstastic horse lamp, (you have to see it) a nice vibe and was packed to the rafters!

So, off to Den Anden we strolled, or actually skipped as we were starving. After backtracking a few times, we nearly gave up but eventually did find the place and it was well worth the effort.

Once again, the restaurant was nearly full, but we got a table. Our server James was absolutely wonderful (hope he reads this, I did tell him I would post!). The food was great and the best meal of our holiday. The style is traditional Danish with a flourish of French cuisine. The Charcuterie starter was divine, followed by pork fillet and absolute best french fries (chips) I have ever taster - EVER! All followed by Creme Brulee and a very nice %26#39;wheat beer%26#39;. The bill was not a shock (as some had been) and the prices very reasonable - they offer a fixed price meal option and you can gorge on 3, 4 or even 5 courses!

So thanks again to DonT - this made our day and again, the best meal of our trip!

Just to advise for those visiting that James gave us a card for their new upcoming restaurant to be opened by the same owners. I would be pleased to add this information and in fact, here are the details for all 3 restaurants.
