Time of Royal Guards

I read that the Royal guards will leave Rosenborg castle at 11.30 am and they arrive at Amalienborg Palace at noon, provided that the royal family is in residence.

Question 1 - I read that this is a DAILY event. Will it also occur on new year%26#39;s eve and on new year%26#39;s day ?

Question 2 - How do I know that it will happen, i.e. that the royal family is actually in residence ? Does the Royal family have some website that tells when they will be in residence. Are they usually in residence between Xmas and new year ?

I think they do it regardless of the royal family. I was there over the summer and there was a guard change at Amalie. at noon.

For what it%26#39;s worth, the guard change is very simple, and I would not say that it%26#39;s a must-do.

The change of guards takes place every day at 12 noon at Amalienborg Castle. The guard is only accompanied by the Royal Guards music band when the Queen is in residency.

The Royal family have a website, but actual events are in Danish only.

New Years day is special for the Royal guards and they wear a different uniform from every day use.

The Queen is always in residence on this day and the changing is a special occasion for many people from Copenhagen. Well worth getting up to see.

During the summer the Queen is not in residence and that%26#39;s probably why some would say the changing is not worth seeing.

I thank you. The problem with the 1st January is that many attractions such as Tivoli and the museums will be closed, so I will leave the Royal guards for that day. Thanks a lot.

I have just returned from a week in Copenhagen and watched the %26quot;changing of the guards%26quot; and it is worth your time. I found it very interesting. It is easy to walk to from %26quot;downtown%26quot; area.
