What to see in 1 day

Going to Copenhagen for a day. Just wondering what attractions are a must see and what ones would you not waste your time on? Will be visiting early Sept. Also any recomendations on where to eat and where to stay? I am traveling on a budget with 2 other people so there is 3 of us. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I would start out from %26quot;Rådhuspladsen%26quot; (http://www.aok.dk/byen-rundt/raadhuspladsen/?p=map for a map). From there I would go down the pedestrian street Strøget (first part named Frederiksberggade). Take a detour from the lively but overpriced street down the alleys for some better shopping options. Examples could be Kompagnistræde, Læderstræde, Larsbjørnsstræde, Studiestræde and Sankt Peders Stræde. If you are there around lunch, a good option is the café in the former church Nikolaj: http://www.nikolajkirken.dk/

At the end of Strøget is Kongens Nytorv, a spectacular square in front of the old royal theater. From here you can go down Nyhavn for Old Harbour look-and-feel. Take the Canal Tour to Christianshavn and enjoy the look of some of the old part of Copenhagen. Christianhavn is a very nice part of the city, where old buildings lies right down to the canals, and there is a relaxed and very nice feeling.

If you feel for it, a guided tour of Christiania (www.christiania.org/modules.php…) is highly recommended. Christiania is a self-managing part of the city, a sort of social experiment, that continues to divide the public opinion. There are plenty of nice places to eat both in Christiania and the rest of Christianshavn.

Walk or take a bus back to Rådhuspladsen and enter Tivoli (http://www.tivoli.dk/composite-3351.htm), preferably just as it becomes dark - the lights are spectacular. Walk around this old park and drop in somewhere to have dinner - but check the prices first, as some places are quite expensive.

There is a hop on/off bus you might want to try. It will take you all around and allow you to get off at the places that interest you. There is commentary you can hear in English. Nice way to spend the day.

If you%26#39;re there overnight I would go to Tivoli. There are some great restaurants in there. I mention overnight because it%26#39;s very magical after dark and the effect is not the same during the day--although it would still be fun.
