Scandinavia and East Europe, your suggestions...

Hi,

We are a family of 4: 2 adults, 2 kids (aged 6 yrs, 9 months).

We are planning a trip to finland, sweden, norway, denmark, hungary, czech...more concentration on first four and little on hungary, czech..

We have around 20 days or so..been to central europe a yr back, so i know my way little bit..

Guys do you think its doable ? if so, then where should i start and end, and how many days.

We would be going around mostly in and around the city attractions, rather than the far one%26#39;s.. a trip here and there for kids to amusement park etc..

We all are vegetarian. Is veg food a problem ? We are planning to go June end or early July.Is this a good time to travel ? What is the weather like in all these places and is it ok for kids ?

Apologies for long mail...

Looking forward to any idea, suggestion, support..

thanks

Hi,

wow, that is some travel plan!

I think it will depend on your kids. I have travelled around 20 times with my now 8 year old daughter, and one thing I know for sure is that a tight schedule does not work with her - she needs to relax in between and have days of doing nothing... but maybe your kids are different.

Regarding the food - I can only answer for Scandinavia (went to Hungary once about 20 years ago and has no fond memories of the food, but I am sure that has changed since then!!:-)

You will have no problem being vegetarians here. Lots of options - will be happy to suggest fine restaurants with vegetarian options in Copenhagen if you want!

Happy planning! Katrine

Hi Katrine,

Thanks for your reply..

We%26#39;ve zeroed on copenhagen, stockholm, helsinki, oslo for 15 to 20 days...

Pls suggest your inputs on veg.rests in copenhagen..

Also, is it possible to see the northern lights in laplands at this time june, july ? Is this far from city limits ? I have a 9 months old son n 6 yrs old ?

Any advice abt copenhagen and its surroundings will be appreciated...

look forward to your reply...

thanks again..

Northern Lights are only visible during the winter - in June and July in Lapland the sun will be out 24 hours a day.

I%26#39;d cut it down still further and %26quot;just%26quot; do Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm and surrounding areas, leaving out Helsinki.

Even that sounds too much to me esp. with the age of the kids. We%26#39;ve found a week moving round between hotels is enough for us following it with a week in one place and day trips.

For example, in 2006 we did Helsinki, Tallinn and Riga, then overnight ferry to Stockholm and a week in an apartment there. This summer we are doing 3 nights in Copenhagen, touring DK for 5 days, ferry to Göteborg, 2 nights there then a week in a holiday home in Skane. And that%26#39;s with a teenager; when he was smaller we tended to spend a week in one place then move on to another place.

If you stay in one place you can cook for yourselves sometimes which is easier and a lot cheaper.

Thanks guys for your time n suggestions...

The reason why iam packing all it in one go is, that we dont want to waste opportunity to see and do as much as we can, whenever we get a chance..

To be honest iam a travel freak and iam never happy going to one or two, three or four places, if things were my way i would never be back home !!!!

It looks a bit tight and tiresome..the only thing iam worried is my younger son 8 months...there will be times when he wont sleep, cry etc etc...

Still undecided.

Lets see, keep you posted.

Hi, there.

If you really want to see as much as possible then consider to use at least one flight, that is if you don%26#39;t travel with a car.

For example, start from Copenhagen. Stay 3-4 days there and then fly to Bergen (you should definitely fit Bergen in your plans). Then you can use train to go to Oslo, then Stockholm and back to Copenhagen. Don%26#39;t try to fit Helsinki in the plan. If you want to visit more places there are lots of beautiful small towns and villages arround all these cities. Also you can do a fjord cruise (one or more days) from Bergen.

East Europe is out of the question. I really love the czech republic, but that should be an other trip I think.

Have a nice trip.

If you go to Stockholm, then I%26#39;d definitely suggest to take a boat to Helsinki. One of the finest archipelago in the world. It%26#39;s a overnight boat so you%26#39;ll save a night at the hotel and kids love to play in the childrens play roon in the boat.

Giving fews days to Helsinki, you%26#39;d also have the possibility to make a day trip to Tallinn, Estonia. It%26#39;s only 90 mins away by a speed boat.

There are quite inexpensive one way flights from HEL to CPH on www.blue1.fi for your trip back to where you started.

Hi,

We have trimmed down the trip to Scandinavia only and have excluded East Europe as suggested by you guys..We are family of 4 ,2 adults n 2 kids, 6 yrs n 9 months, planning end of june, early july...Is this a good time to travel and will it be too cold ?

Now, i need your assistance again please...

I have abt 20 days and i want to cover Norway(oslo, bergen, flam, one fjords cruise), Finland (helsinki or any of the day trips), Sweden (stockholm, malmo, if time permits then Goteburg),Demnark (copenhagen and any day trips) and 1 day trip to Talinn, Estonia..

We intend to spend 4 days in the above places and i day for estonia.Pls advise us,as to which places we should increase the no.of days and which places to reduce no.of days..

Also, pls let us know any of the attraction or places we might have missed and should be included.

Our main area of interest is the main cities n surroundings, not much into museums etc but waterside, mountains and some theme parks for kids...and day trips from the above cities, if it can be included.

I need your inputs as to where should i start and where should i end my journey. We will be flying from Dubai and back.

Is the above mentioned itinerary convenient considering to young kids ?

Sorry for the long mail...

Appreciate your opinions and suggestions...

Thanks
