OK, so can we do all 4 in one day. We are quick museum goers - i.e. don%26#39;t read everything, but want to see all 4. If possible, what order (to maximize travel efficiency) do you recommend. Will be taking train from CPH. Also would it be better to rent a car and drive?
thanks

If I were you I would visit the places in this order:
Frederiksborg Castle (open 10-17)
Kronborg Castle (open 10.30-17)
Louisiana (open 11-22).
Karen Blixen Museum (10-17, Mondays closed)
Take the S-train E-line from Copenhagen to Hillerod.
From Hillerod take the train to Helsingor. The train departs every hour at x.00.
From Helsingor take bus 388 to Louisiana. The bus departs at x.09 and x.39 and stops right in front of the museum.
From Louisiana to Karen Blixen Museum take bus 388 to Rungsted Havn (harbour). It%26#39;s 50 min ride and a 5 min walk to Karen Blixen Museum. The bus departs at x.00, x.30 and x.40. From Humlebaek take the train back to Copenhagen.
From Karen Blixen Museum take bus 388 or walk 1500 m to Rungsted Kyst station where you take the train back to Copenhagen.
You can plan you trip here: http://www.rejseplanen.dk/ (change language near the bottom of the page).
You can buy a 24 hour ticket that will unlimited travel on buses, metro and trains for DKK 120.
Of course renting a car will give you more flexibility, but also a lot more expensive.

What is the difference between the s train to hillerod and the regular strain from kobenhaven H to hillerod?
also, do you think 1 1/2 hours is enough at Fredriksborg?
Any favorite spots in Helsingor? for lunch?

There is only one kind of train to Hillerød - it%26#39;s an S-train.
I would say an hour and a half at Frederiksborg is ok if you are not interested in it%26#39;s huge, amazing, rococo garden.
Also allow 15 minutes for the walk from the station and 15 minutes back - at least.
