My days in Copenhagen, August '09

What a great city! We had lots of fun and great experiences and can%26#39;t wait to come back and explore more of Denmark!

Regarding the debate about Tivoli- we went in the evening and walked around and it is completely charming! There was a chamber orchestra and a big band playing throughout the evening to a backdrop of screams from the roller coaster. The lights along the pathways made it sweet and romantic, and we just wandered and enjoyed the ambiance. Beautiful, and I would definitely recommend to go there!

We also went out to the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde. It was really interesting, and Roskilde is a neat little town. We stopped and took a look in the church as well (where many Danish royalty are buried). I would have liked to have had the time to take the lake cruise.

We spent the majority of our time wandering the town and seeing the typical tourist sights- the Little Mermaid, the castle, climbed the spire, went on a canal cruise (highly recommended), sat and had a beer in Nyhavn and enjoyed the city.

We bought the CPH card ahead of time, and really enjoyed the freedom (and cost!!) of being able to get on public transport and into most of the sights with the card. It was definitely worth the money. We found things to be quite expensive in Denmark (especially converting to the Canadian Peso) so the card helped out with budgeting.

We stayed at the Hotel Alexandra, and found it to be clean and more than adequate, and the hotel staff very kind and helpful. It was in a great central location and easy to find from the central train station. Our only complaint about the hotel would be that the noise from the street was excessive, but that certainly isn%26#39;t the hotel%26#39;s fault.
